THOSE WHO LOST 50 KILOS BY SURGICAL METHOD, THEY SAY ‘I WAS BORN AGAIN’

Who are forced to carry the body to the knees, the night turns into a nightmare, sleep problems, weight problems diseases drugs for different diseases, each one different from each other though living smoked in a row, lost, unhappiness and self-confidence in most of bariatric sleeve surgery in Turkey is one of the most experienced names, Doc. Dr. “Some patients who have undergone the operation say that they were reborn after the weighing showed that they were missing 50 kilos.”

According to the data of Turkstat in 2021, 37.1 percent of the population is overweight and 20.6 percent is obese in our country. The World Health Organization defines obesity as an epidemic that affects the whole world. The size of this epidemic is also expected to increase in the coming years. Weight is an important problem that restricts a person’s life. Weight gain, which greatly reduces the quality of life, also negatively affects self-esteem. As the load added to the body increases, getting hungry and eating constantly turns into a cycle that is difficult to get out of. Assoc., who plays an important role in restoring the health of many patients with his studies on obesity surgery. Doctor in Antalya says the following about the increase of obesity all over the world: “Unfortunately, there is a significant increase in obesity both in our country and in the world. The development of technology and the fact that city life has become shopping center-oriented is leading to an increase in sedentary hours. A lifestyle surrounded by high-calorie foods and drinks makes weight gain much easier. Obesity in USA and UK is also on the rise, especially in children and young people. In connection with this, we have started to see diseases that we used to see in middle age, now in children.”

.
DISEASES GO AWAY WITH WEIGHT

Doctor, when overweight turns into a health problem,“We make the distinction between weight according to body mass index. This index is calculated by dividing the body weight by the square of the length of the stature. Those with a body mass index of 18-25 are defined as normal weight, between 25-30 are overweight, those 30 and over are obese,” he says, explaining in which cases surgical methods are used: “The main problem in obesity is that concomitant diseases increase with weight. Being overweight causes many health problems such as diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease and liver lubrication. There is an important relationship the types of cancer and overweight. Sleep problems, knee decimations that are difficult to carry the body are among the most common complaints of patients. As the weight increases, it becomes difficult for a person to exercise and control what they eat. For patients who cannot lose weight with diet and exercise, surgical methods make it easier to lose weight. With each lost weight, we also observe an improvement in concomitant diseases.”

.
AFTER THE OPERATION, THE PATIENT’S LIFE IS RADICALLY CHANGING

In people with a body mass index over 35, surgical methods have a significant impact on improving the quality of life. After the operation, the person begins to lose weight step by step. When the weight carried by the body decreases, the concomitant diseases also begin to improve. It is necessary that the person strictly follows his diet after the operation. Maybe people who have never been at the ideal weight since childhood, when they lose 50-60 pounds, a new life begins in front of them. They often use phrases such as “I was born again”, following the operation. Being able to change a person’s life in such a fundamental way is a very happy situation that affects me and my colleagues as well as patients.”

.
THE METHOD DEPENDS ON THE PATIENT’S CONDITIONS

Stating that there are various forms of treatment in obesity surgery, Associate Doctor, “Among these, the most used in our country and in the world are Tube Stomach Surgery, Gastric Bypass and Gastric Balloon. Which method to choose is determined by the common opinion of the patient and the Turkish physician, taking into account the concomitant diseases,” he said, giving the following information about the methods:

1- Tube Stomach Surgery :

The stomach has a volume of 1.5-2 liters in capacity. In tube stomach surgery in Turkey, the stomach is divided vertically and a large part is removed. After the operation, the stomach acquires a narrow and elongated shape. Because of this image that is formed, the operation is called tube stomach surgery. After the procedure, the capacity of the stomach is reduced to a volume of 150-200 milliliters. Since about 80-85 percent of the stomach is disabled, the amount of food consumed will also decrease. In addition, there is a decrease in Ghrelin, which is secreted from the stomach at a high rate and is known as the hunger hormone. Thus, a system is created in which a person will lose weight after surgery, as his appetite will also decrease.

2- Gastric Balloon :

It is an endoscopic method. This application is a temporary method and the duration of the balloon’s stay in the stomach is 6 months. The most important advantage of this is that the patient does not need to take general anesthesia. This method is also called by this name due to the fact that a balloon is released into the stomach. An isotonic liquid is placed in a balloon made of silicone and inflated. The balloon has a volume of 400-700 cc and is decanted into the stomach after inflating by injecting an amount of liquid that corresponds to the patient’s body mass index. The balloon is inflated in our country and around the world, most often in such a way that it is 550-600 cc. People who wear gastric balloons should definitely protect their stomachs. In this sense, we ask our patients to use a drug that reduces stomach acid until the balloon is removed after the procedure.

3- Gastric Bypass (Gastric) :

This surgery, which is very commonly used in obesity surgery in Turkey hospital, both reduces the volume of the stomach and creates difficulty in absorption in the small intestine. Thus, rapid weight loss occurs after surgery. It is possible that people who have undergone this operation will lose 80-85 percent of their excess weight in a year after the operation. Whichever method is preferred, it is important that the patient adheres to his diet after the operation and switches to new eating habits. In the post-operative period, we support our patients who have moved to a new life to speed up the adaptation process.”
