TURKEY OBESITY TREATMENT WITH ROBOTIC TUBE STOMACH SURGERY

Turkey Medicals member and Antalya hospital department, head of clinic General Surgery Specialist Associate Doctor explains what needs to be known about the treatment of obesity with robotic tube stomach surgery in Turkey.

Obesity can be defined as a large increase in the amount of fat in the body. The proportion of fat in the body is measured by calculations of the body mass index. According to the result of this calculation, it can be determined that the person’s weight is normal or excessive. In addition, the classification of obesity as Class1 and Class2 is carried out with the same calculations.

If the body mass index is 35, obesity can be diagnosed if it is 40, and morbid obesity can be diagnosed in this calculation based on a person’s height and weight. Morbid obesity, on the other hand, indicates that other diseases may occur with it.”

Not everyone is suitable for bariatric surgery

“There are some indications for bariatric surgery. We can list them as follows: If the body mass index is over 35 and obesity-related disorders such as a blood pressure, insulin resistance, diabetes, joint problems have also started to occur, it may be necessary to resort to bariatric surgery. In addition, people with a body mass index over 40 can also resort to bariatric surgery before other diseases occur.”

Treatment of obesity with surgical techniques

“Initially, the stomach clamping technique, called gastric banding, was the most commonly used method. After this method, sleeve gastrectomy, i.e. tubulation of the stomach and gastric bypass methods were developed. Nowadays, the sleeve gastrectomy method is more preferred. Tube stomach surgery may be recommended for all patient groups. Sleeve gastrectomy, that is, in tube stomach surgery, 76% of the stomach is removed surgically. Obesity surgery is a very serious surgery that should be preferred at the latest stage.
.

Before surgery, the patient’s suitability for surgery should be investigated. It is necessary to establish that he does not have an endocrine problem that leads to obesity.

.
Otherwise, the operation in Antalya and Istanbul Turkey hospital will not be of any use.”

Robotic tube stomach surgery

Associate Doctor: “Robotic surgery provides important advantages in laparoscopic, i.e. closed surgeries. Robotic surgery provides the possibility of a three-dimensional view. This technique allows the surgeon to fully master the operation, the organ and the device. Thanks to robotic surgery, you can see the operating area 2-4 times larger and have the opportunity to conduct an in-depth examination. 8 mm.thanks to the operation performed by entering the liquid through a catheter, the patient does not have any surgical pain, the possibility of inflammation of the wound site disappears.

The patient is able to get up and walk 6 hours after the operation. With a controlled diet, it can reach 15 pounds in the first month and 35-40 pounds in two or three months.”
.

For this, the bariatric patient’s fat and muscle ratios should be calculated very carefully and the weight loss process should be controlled. In order not to gain weight again, the patient needs to reorganize his diet.
