ABOUT MENTOPLASTY IN TURKEY

.
MENTOPLASTY KNOWN AS ZYGOMAPLASTY OR CHIN SURGERY, IS A COSMETIC PROCEDURE AIMED AT ENHANCING THE APPEARANCE OF THE CHIN, CORRECTING CHIN MALFORMATIONS, AND RESHAPING IT. IT CAN BE PERFORMED FOR VARIOUS REASONS, SUCH AS ADJUSTING A DISPROPORTIONATELY SIZED CHIN OR AS PART OF CRANIOFACIAL RECONSTRUCTION POST-TRAUMA, CANCER SURGERY. MENTOPLASTY IS ALSO UTILIZED IN ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY, WHICH INVOLVES REPOSITIONING FACIAL BONES TO RECTIFY DEFORMITIES IMPACTING A PATIENT’S ABILITY TO EAT OR CHEW NORMALLY, WHILE ALSO ENHANCING THE AESTHETIC APPEAL OF THE CHIN

MENTOPLASTY PROCEDURE
.
For the mentoplasty chin surgery in Turkey hospitals can be done. For the inserting an implant under the skin of the chin or by a sliding genioplasty. Insertion of the implant takes between 30-60 minutes while a sliding genioplasty takes between 45-90 minutes. If the Mentoplasty surgery is done together with orthognathic surgery then the operation can take up to 3 hours. Incisions are done under the chin (submental) or inside the mouth (intraoral). Then the surgeon will cut through several layers of tissue and make a pocket in the connective tissue inside the chin. Then the implant is inserted and positioned. The incision will be closed with sutures and the wound will be covered with Steri-strips. If the patients chin is small for an augmentation with an implant, a sliding genioplasty will be performed. For this procedure, the surgeon will cut through the jawbone with an oscillating saw and remove part of the bone. The surgeon will then move the bone segment forward holding it in place with a metal plate and screw. Once the bone segment is fixed in place, the incision will be closed and the patients head will be wrapped with a pressure dressing.

.
CHIN REDUCTION

.
Chin reduction of a large or protruding chin can be done by either a direct reduction or a sliding genioplasty. In a direct reduction the surgeon will make a submental or an intraoral incision and remove excess bone from the chin with a burr.

TYPES OF CHIN PLANT IMPLANT SURGERY

Types of Chin Implant surgery:

Solid implants – in chin augmentation implants are usually synthetic and usually silicone. Unlike implant used in breast augmentation, solid silicone implants rupture or leak into the body. Other materials also used in chin implants are polyethylene, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE or Gore-Tex), acellular dermal matrix product (alloderm). Synthetic implants come in various shapes and sizes. Another technique widely used is to take a cartilage or bone from another part of the body but with this kind of implant there is a high risk of infection. A solid implant can be removed if necessary.

Injectable fillers – the chin can be augmented using injectable filler to build up the chin and make it more prominent. Injectable filler products for chin augmentation contain collagen, hydoxylapatite, hyaluronic acid and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). Collagen and hyaluronic acid are temporary fillers, which mean they don’t last more than a few months because the body will eventually absorb them. If the patient is happy with the results then they must continue getting the injections. PMMA injections are permanent. A disadvantage to PMMA injections is that they are not easy to remove.
