NUMBER OF TOURISTS COMING TO ANTALYA HAS EXCEEDED 15 MILLION

Turkey Culture and Tourism Minister announced that the number of tourists coming to Antalya this year has exceeded 15 million.

Minister Ersoy stated that the number of tourists coming to Antalya this year has exceeded 15 million and said, “Both the income and the number of tourists are higher than the figures of 2019, when tourism was the most intense before the pandemic. Which is quite gratifying.” said.

Minister, who is in the city for the Antalya Cultural Road Festival, said that a figure of $ 42 billion has been reached in tourism across Turkey according to 9 monthly data, and progress has been made towards the revenue target of $ 55.6 billion for the end of the year.

Recalling that after this target was announced, events such as the earthquakes on February 6 and the Israeli attack on Palestine occurred, Minister said, “Although we have experienced many negative effects one after the other, we are managing the medium-term program appropriately. It’s gratifying from that point of view. When we look at the whole of Antalya, the number of visitors exceeded 15 million as of yesterday. Both the income and the number of tourists are higher than in 2019, when pre-pandemic tourism was at its peak. Which is quite gratifying.” he spoke.

Pointing out that tourism revenues have also experienced a significant increase, Minister said, “Spending per person per night, which was $ 67 at the end of 2017, reached $ 100 when we looked at the figures announced last year. This shows that the process is developing in accordance with our policies and strategies. And this makes us very happy.” he made his assessment.

Stating that the sector has been positively or negatively affected by every incident, Minister noted that they have been struggling with numerous crises since he took office.

Minister explained that when he took office, they faced the bankruptcy of Thomas Cook, followed by the global epidemic process, then the Russia-Ukraine War, the earthquake affecting 11 provinces, the election process took place, he stressed. Drawing attention to the fact that Turkey can be exposed to crises due to its geography, Minister said, “There were crises yesterday, there are crises today, and there will be crises in the future. If we already know this reality, the important thing is to learn to live with this reality.” he used the expression.

WE ARE NOT USING ALL OF THE TOURISM POTENTIAL

Reminding that they established the Turkish Tourism Promotion and Development Agency in 2019 in order to make the sector stronger, Minister shared the following:

“The main task of the agency is to bring a quick solution to the problems related to tourism, especially promotion, by joining hands with the sector and the state. We are also managing this successfully. We are currently doing intensive effective promotion in more than 200 countries. In a very short time, we have become the most intensive, most effective promotional country in the world. We are already seeing the results of this in the number of tourists and their incomes. Has the process been completed? No, we still have a lot of work to do. We need to work much harder, because Turkey’s tourism potential is priceless. Actually, we’re not using all of them either.”

Expressing that they are working intensively to spread tourism over 12 months and to include each city in tourism, Minister added that they are steadily taking steps towards the goal.
