WHERE DID THE BALLOON FISH COME FROM TO TURKEY?

In the practice of fishing for the most dangerous invasive species of balloon fish in the Mediterranean Sea for a fee, the number of fish delivered so far has been 5 thousand 66. As the delivery of the body is troublesome for the fishermen and the expected level of catch is not formed, the notification is changed again so that the tail purchase can also be made.

The acquisition campaign launched by the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to reduce the population of the most dangerous species and poison balloonfish migrating to the Mediterranean Sea by crossing the Suez Canal, 1200 times stronger than cyanide, has so far failed to achieve the expected results.

.
A TARGET OF 16.5 MILLION BLOWFISH IN 3 YEARS

According to the Decision on the Support of Balloon Fishing, which came into force by being published in the Official Gazette in May, those who hunt up to 500 thousand spotted species of balloon fish are paid 5 pounds per grain, and those who hunt other species up to 5 million 50 cents per grain. according to the communiqué covering the years 2021, 2022 and 2023, it is aimed to remove a total of 16.5 million balloon fish from the ecosystem, including 5.5 million annually.

.
64 RECEPTION POINTS IN 10 PROVINCES

For the first time, only the Mediterranean provinces were included in the application launched in 2020, while the Aegean provinces were also added to this year’s application. 10 Provinces with Mediterranean and Aegean coasts were included in the scope of support.

Within the scope of the communiqué, 64 reception points were established in Adana, Antalya, Aydın, Balıkesir, Çanakkale, Edirne, Hatay, Izmir, Mersin and Muğla provinces through fishing shelters and agriculture district directorates.

.
AT THE EXPECTED LEVEL, THE HUNT DID NOT TAKE PLACE

At the 64 balloon fish reception points designated in 10 provinces, the number of balloon fish brought to the District Directorates of Agriculture and Forestry and fishing shelters since July has been 5 thousand 66. Officials at the reception points noted that according to the tail reception implemented in 2020, the whole-body reception pattern this year is troublesome for fishermen.

.
THE SUMMER HUNTING BAN ALSO AFFECTED

It was announced that there was no expected level of demand for the fishermen as the processes such as the preservation and transportation of the balloon fish hunted in whole body until the day of purchase were difficult for the fishermen. Another reason for the low number of balloon fish caught was cited as the summer hunting bans and the fact that many of the small-scale fishermen are working in a second job.

.
THE SIZE IS CHANGING

The General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture under the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has started work to amend the Communiqué on the Support of Balloon Fish Fishing.

In order to ensure that fishermen are in demand for balloon fishing as in 2020, the practice of re-queuing will be implemented. The amendment to the communiqué on this issue is expected to enter into force in November 2021 and it is aimed to increase balloon fish fishing.

.
PAYMENT OF CLOSE TO 23 THOUSAND TL

According to the data of the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture, close to 23 thousand TL was paid for a total of 5 thousand 66 balloon fish caught and delivered by fishermen within the scope of support in the process from July to today for a total of 23 thousand TL. Within the scope of the Communiqué, purchases were made from 7 provinces other than Edirne, Balıkesir and Çanakkale from 10 provinces bordering the Mediterranean and Aegean seas.

.
THE MOST HUNTED IN ANTALYA

Antalya took the first place in this year’s purchases with 1885 balloon fish, while a total of close to 8,500 TL was paid. 1398 fish were delivered from Muğla and 5 thousand 770 TL were paid. 3 Thousand 772 balloon fish were delivered in Hatay and 3 thousand 505 balloon fish were delivered in Mersin. The northernmost point where the fish was seen was Izmir, while there have been 66 balloon fish deliveries that have been fished in Izmir so far.

.
SPOTTED SPECIES DENSITY

As for the balloon fish hunted on the basis of species, the spotted (silver-cheeked) balloon fish with 4,208 pieces ranks first. Other species are listed as golden balloon fish, Suez balloon fish, dwarf balloon fish, spiny balloon fish. The balloon fish that were purchased were destroyed.
