ABOUT LASIK IN TURKEY
For the Lasik eye laser surgery in Turkey eye hospitals apart from improving the person visions, usually takes 30 minutes or less. Numbing drops and other medications will be used in the eye to relax the patient. The patient will lie on their back in a reclining chair. The eye surgeon will use an instrument to hold the eyelids open. A suction ring will be placed on the eye before the surgeon cuts the corneal flap, which may cause a feeling of pressure and the vision, may get dimmer. The surgeon will use a small blade or cutting laser (when cutting laser is used, it is called intra lasik or ilasik eye surgery. The cornea is cut using a laser which reduces the amount of pain and harm) to cut a hinged flap just as big as a contact lens from the front of the eye. The surgeon will then use laser to reshape specific parts of the cornea. Once reshaping is done the flap is folded back into place and heals without a need for stitches. Patients will be asked to stare at a point of light that will help the eye fix while the laser reshapes the cornea. Patients can sometimes detect an odor once the laser removes the corneal tissue, which is described as the smell of burning hair. The lasik surgery can be performed on both eyes on the same procedure. Once lasik is diagnosed the patient will undergo laser eye surgery in Antalya and Istanbul dunya goz hospitals.
.
SUITABLE PATIENTS FOR LASIK
Lasik eye surgery in Turkey can be an option for patients if they have any one of these human eye vision problems;
- Near sightedness myopia – the eyeball is slightly longer than normal or when the cornea curves sharply. The light rays focus in front of the retina and blur distant vision. Objects that are closer can be seen clearly but those that are away can’t be seen.
.
- Far sightedness hyperopia – eyeball is shorter than average or the cornea is too flat that light focuses behind the retina instead of focusing on it. This makes the near vision and sometimes the distant vision blurry.
. - Astigmatism – the cornea curves or flattens unevenly. Astigmatism disrupts focus of near and the distant vision.
.
BEFORE LASIK TREATMENT
- Patients must stop wearing soft contact lenses 7 days before the surgery, toric lenses 2 weeks before the surgery and rigid gas permeable lenses 3 weeks before the surgery.
.
- Patients must arrange for someone to come to the surgery with them and to assist them after the surgery.
.
- Patients will be taken through some tests before the surgery. The eye will be valuated by using a wavefront guided technology and the shape and contour of the cornea will be measured.
.
AFTER LASIK TREATMENT
- Cosmetics can start to be worn after a few weeks from the surgery.
.
- Vision won’t be clear straight away after the surgery. It will take about 2-3 months after the surgery for the eye to heal and vision to stabilize.
.
- Patients may be asked to wear a shield over the eye at night until the eye heals.
.
- Patients will be prescribed medication and eye drops to use after the surgery.
.
- Patients may have a blurred vision and may experience a slight pain.
. - Patients may experience a burn in the eye after the surgery, the eye may itch and be watery.
.
RISK OF LASIK TREATMENTS
There is a slight possibility of risks to occur like in every surgery such as;
- Allergic – reactions to materials used.
.
- Under correction – if the laser removes less tissue than needed, desired result won’t be achieved.
.
- Overcorrection – if the laser removes too much tissue from the eye.
.
- Visual loss or change – rarely patients may experience loss of vision due to surgical complications.
.
- Astigmatism – caused by uneven tissue removal.
.
- Glare, halos and double vision – may be difficulty seeing at night. Glare or halos or double vision can occur around bright lights.
.
- Dry eyes – can cause a temporary decrease in tear production. Eyes can feel dry up to 6 months from the surgery. Eye drops can be used to help.
.
- Infection. – inner eye infections.
.
DEFINITION OF LASIK
Cornea – transparent part of the eye covering the iris and pupil.
Anesthetic drops – drops given to numb to eye so the patient does not feel any discomfort during the surgery and being awake.
.
FIRST DAY
The patient will attend a consultation with the ophthalmologist and will be advised about the procedure and their condition. The patient will then be taken through couple of tests that are required before the treatment. If desired, patients can spend the day to rest and attend the clinic the next day.
.
SECOND DAY
The Lasik Eye Surgery will be performed. Lasik surgery usually takes upto 30 minutes and sometimes shorter. The surgery can be performed on both eyes on the same day if needed. Once the surgery is over and the patient is feeling better, the patient can then go to their residence settlement with someone accompanying.
.
THIRD DAY
Patients will attend post surgery check up and consultation. If they are approved to be in a good, healthy condition and the surgery results were all successful; the patients are advised with post treatment care requirements and are ready to go back to their normal routine.
