This week’s guest Turkey Medicals, is the president of the Turkish Association of Pediatric Dermatology.

Doctor, Can you tell me the history of when your association was founded?

Our association was founded in 2004 by dermatologists and pediatricians. Foundation work started with a working group created by Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine Department of Dermatology and held in Kayseri 1. In the same year, the foundation of the association was realized by taking the decision to establish the association at the National Days of Pediatric Dermatology.

What are the general areas of activity of your association?

Our association conducts educational activities on children’s skin diseases and conducts courses, seminars aimed at bringing our service standard to a better level by representing our country at international meetings.

Do other associations serve in your area?

Our association is the only Association in our country in this regard.

Who can become a member of your association? What are your current members?

Dermatology and pediatrics specialists and research assistants who receive specialized training in these areas can be members of our association. Currently, we have 184 members.

What percentage of physicians related to your field in Turkey are members of your association?

About 2 percent of dermatologists are our members.

How long before the General Assembly and member elections are held? When was the last time the election was held?

The General Assembly is held every 2 years and member elections are held at the General Assembly. The last General Assembly was held in Mersin, 4. It was held at the National Days of Pediatric Dermatology.

Do you have a periodical scientific publication published by your association?

We don’t have a scientific publication yet, but we’re in the planning stages.

Does your association have a Qualification Board? Is there a qualification exam, if any?

We do not have a Qualification Board established within our association.

Can you tell me about the exams if they are being done?

A qualification exam is not conducted by our association.

Can you give information about the Congress and other scientific events organized by your association?

After the establishment of the association, Erciyes University, Trabzon K.T.National Pediatric Dermatology days have been organized three times in cooperation with Ü and Mersin University. In addition, two summer schools were held, one with national and one with international participation. The International Summer School was organized in 2009 in Istanbul with the contributions of the Association of skin and Venereal Diseases and received great appreciation with 425 participants from both domestic and foreign countries. 8 Turkish and 2 foreign participants won awards in the knowledge contest held at the end of this summer school.

Do the Association have Scientific Working Groups?

Scientific Working Groups of our association are currently in preparation.

Are there any international organizations that you are a member of? What are the joint studies?

Our association cooperates with the European Society of Pediatric Dermatology (ESPD) and currently I and Prof. Dr. Osman Köse serves on the Board of Directors of the European Society of Pediatric Dermatology. The 2012 ESPD European Congress will be held jointly in Istanbul.

What are the association revenues?

Association income consists of member dues and simposium income.

How much of the Association’s income does dues account for? Does every member pay dues? What are the sanctions imposed if they are not paid?

Membership dues constitute a small part of our association income. Our annual member dues are 20 TL. We do not have sanctions for those who do not have the opportunity to pay, only those who do not deposit dues benefit from a discount to members in the course fees and fees.

Do you find the specialized training time for your branch sufficient/excessive?

Pediatric Dermatology is not yet a minor specialty.

Is there a shortage or excess in the number of doctors related to your branch in Turkey?

Increasing the number of physicians interested in Pediatric Dermatology is our greatest wish.

What are the goals that your association intends to achieve in the short or long term?

Our association won the right to hold the European Congress in 2012. Our preparations for this Congress are ongoing. 5. National Days of Pediatric Dermatology in 2011 in Kuşadası in partnership with Aydın Adnan Menderes University Department of Dermatology, Prof. Dr. It will take place under the chairmanship of Neslihan Şendur. Our national symposium will continue to be held every 2 years after the European Congress.

In the short term, it is aimed to create working groups and to create an interactive discussion environment through our website.

In the long term, it is hoped that Pediatric Dermatology will be a minor specialty.
