WORLDS FIRST AND SECOND HUMAN FACE TRANSPLANTS IN ANTALYA TURKEY

It has been 10 years since Turkey’s first face transplant was performed at Akdeniz University Hospital located in the Mediterranean region of Antalya. Celebrating the anniversary of the face transplant by cutting a cake with UA and TC, Professor Doctor, “UA visited 6 months before the transplant. He asked some questions and made me a little nervous. We went a little further than the transplant, but then we thought it was very normal to ask such questions for such an important transplant,” he said.

Akdeniz University Hospital Professor Doctor said that the meeting was very meaningful. Stating that the first face transplant patients have completed their 10th year, Turkish doctor said, “If it was not for my teacher Professor doctor it wouldn’t have been possible to do this. The first face transplant attracted more attention. It was probably a reflection on life from the movies. It was very different from other transplants. Many good years have passed together with UA. I would like to thank our team, the Turkish Ministry of Health. We’re very lucky. We also thank the families who donated to us,” he said.

TRANSPLANTS ARE STILL ATTRACTING INTEREST

Explaining that the number of these operations, which show the level of development of medicine in Turkey, has increased over the years, Akdeniz University Hospital department Professor Doctor said, “This is one of the most important examples showing the development of medicine in Turkey. The Ministry of Health offers the most social health service in the world to our people. The donation part needs to be increased a little more. UA has completed his 10th year. We are talking about a transplant that is over 10 in number. Such transplants are still of interest in the world,” he said.

Prof. Dr. also shared his memory of UA from 10 years ago.

Stating that UA visited him 10 years ago, 6 months before the transplant operation, Doctor said, “UA asked me some questions and made me a little nervous. We went a little further than the transplant, but then we thought it was very normal to ask such questions for such an important transplant. Then we met again, we answered his questions one by one. He even told me, ‘I’m ready for surgery, are you ready for it? said.

Antalya city Akdeniz University Hospital, Professor Doctor added that UA got over the psychological part of the disease very easily.

THERE WERE GOOD DAYS AND BAD DAYS

UA thanked the team that performed the transplant and said that he was grateful to the family that donated.

Stating that he had different processes with his pain and dessert AU said, “There were good days and bad days. We passed all of them. I think I am with the best doctors in the world that I can trust and move forward healthily in Turkey,” he said.

TC thanked the Turkish family that donated organs and the team that performed the transplant.
