IS IT POSSIBLE TO TREAT PEYRONIE (CURVATURE OF THE PENIS)?

Turkey Medicals member and hospital head of department Turkish Urology Specialist Professor Doctor… tells us more information on Peyronie’s disease, which entered the medical literature with the name of a famous French surgeon, is one of the important urological diseases.

In this disease;

– Stiffness in the penis (plaque formation)

– The problem of hardening

– Penile curvature constitutes the three most common basic symptoms.

In Peyronie’s disease, calcifications occur in the sheath around the anatomical structures that are cylindrical in the penis and provide hardening.

Peyronie’s disease and related penile curvature is a disease that occurs later. Often there is a history of trauma to the penis for the onset of the disease. In other words, calcifications occur in different areas or only in a certain area during the healing process after trauma to the penis. Penile trauma can also occur after any strain during intercourse or during masturbation. More rarely, it can also occur after blunt injuries to the penis (such as after being kicked, hit by a ball, or falling from a height).

However, in some cases of chronic disease, Peyronie’s disease can occur without a history of trauma. Diabetes mellitus, known as diabetes mellitus, is one of the leading systemic diseases. Penile curvatures can also occur spontaneously in diabetic patients.

.
IN HOW MANY PERIODS IS PEYRONIE’S DISEASE EXAMINED?

With all these complaints, it is very important to contact a urologist at an early stage. Because early admission and treatment for the disease can prevent the disease from getting worse, as well as accelerate recovery.

.
PEYRONIE’S DISEASE MANIFESTS ITS COURSE IN ROUGHLY TWO PERIODS

1. Acute (unstable) period:

This period is the period when the disease first begins to form after the triggering factor. The most obvious complaint in patients during this period is pain in the penis when it dec to an erection, curvature of the penis, and the occasional problem of erection. The acute period is the period when the disease also has an exacerbation characteristic. Patients who are in this period are involved in one of three different processes:

A: The disease can be completely cured. The body can eliminate the disease and eliminate the problem with the help of a self-repairing mechanism.

Two: the disease can remain the same as in the period at the time of diagnosis, when the doctor was consulted. In other words, although complete recovery cannot be achieved, there will be no worsening.

Three: Peyronie’s disease is progressing and, accordingly, both curvature and hardening problems are gradually increasing in patients.

2. Chronic (stable) period:

During this period, the picture of the disease is well seated on the penis. It is noteworthy that there are hard plaques on the penis that come to the hand. Depending on the plaques, although they vary according to the places of involvement at different points of the penis, different degrees of curvature have been formed. In addition to all these symptoms, hardening problems are also often observed in patients.

.
DIAGNOSIS OF PEYRONIE’S DISEASE

As mentioned above, early diagnosis is very important in the diagnosis of the disease. It is noteworthy that hard plaques are dealt with during a physical examination after receiving a detailed history. Plaques may not come to hand in patients admitted at an early stage. Penile color Doppler ultrasonography is also known as another frequently used method to support the diagnosis.

.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO CURE PEYRONIE PENIS CURVATURE?

The surgical option is definitely not considered for patients admitted at an early stage of the disease. During this period, various drug treatments and ESWT shock wave therapy are among the treatment options used to decongest pain. In some cases, these treatments are insufficient and intra-plaque drug injections are added to the treatment. In addition to these treatments, surgical treatments are also performed to correct the curvature of the penis in patients admitted in a more advanced period. Penile prostheses (happiness stick) are applied as a surgical procedure in order to restore hardening in some cases, while sometimes it may be sufficient to correct only the obliquity during surgical treatments. In men with advanced penile curvature, the penile prosthesis installed after removing the plaques is an important treatment option that provides patient and partner satisfaction.

.
IN SUMMARY

– Peyronie’s disease is a disease that occurs with penis curvature, erectile dysfunction, and hard plaques that come to the hand.

– The disease has acute and chronic periods. Surgical treatment is not performed for patients who are in an acute period.

– It is important to start the early diagnosis and treatment process in the treatment of the disease.
