A SAMPLE LIST OF DIETS THAT SUPPORT THE BRAIN DEVELOPMENT OF THE BABY DURING PREGNANCY

Turkey Medicals member for JCI hospital and department head Turkish Dietitian Associate Professor, she told our dear mothers, it is up to you to support your baby’s brain and nerve development. What Turkish foods support our baby’s cognitive health during pregnancy in Turkey? What are the points we should pay attention to? All of them, including the sample diet program, are in my article. Pleasant readings…

We all know that the effect of nutrition on the brain begins with the nutrition of the mother during pregnancy. Negative effects on brain development during pregnancy and the first two years of life after it, as a result of malnutrition of the mother and baby, can have permanent and irreplaceable consequences. When we think about it, a few vitamins and minerals that support the brain and nerve development of the baby come to the fore at this point.

For example, folic acid is a water-soluble vitamin that is involved in the formation of cell building blocks, the construction and repair of DNA. In the early stages of pregnancy in Turkey (the first 28 days) it is absolutely necessary for the development of the central nervous system of the baby. Folic acid beans, chickpeas in dried legumes such as spinach, lettuce, parsley, such as greeny, leafy vegetables, such as vitamin that can be taken with food to meet the daily needs in this period, although it must be reinforced. The first 12 months of pregnancy from the period of preparation for pregnancy of women who want to become mothers.taking 400 micrograms of folic acid every day until the week reduces the likelihood that the baby will be born with brain, spine and spinal cord problems by 70%.

Important note: It is worth being careful when consuming foods such as parsley, dill during pregnancy. Let’s avoid consuming it in a concentrated form in smoothie or tea forms. We can add a handful or so to our salads, breakfasts.

Again, iodine deficiency, growth retardation in infants and children, mental retardation, dwarfism, failure of the pituitary gland (hypothyroidism); the pituitary gland in children and adolescents, growth retardation, school failure, leads to difficulties in understanding and learning and IQ causes a loss in comparison to his peers. Iodine deficiency in the unborn baby is a consequence of iodine deficiency in the mother. During this period, let’s definitely use iodized salt.

Brain development in humans begins in the last six months of pregnancy, reaches its peak at birth and continues rapidly after birth. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), one of the omega-3 fatty acids, is essential for the development of the baby’s brain and the functional development of the nervous system. As is known, fatty fish is a good source of omega-3. But here we should pay attention to the fact that we prefer fish with a low mercury content and a high omega-3 content. These fish are called ‘safe fish’, that is, safe fish. Salmon, sardines, trout, haddock and anchovies are in the safe fish group. 2 Servings should be consumed per week.

Another way to get omega-3, the essential fatty acid in our body, is supplements. In a study conducted, it was found that fish oil supplements are more reliable in terms of mercury toxicity compared to most seafood(1). What we should pay attention to here is the content of the supplement. Supplements made from fish liver, such as cod liver oil, are not safe to take during pregnancy. A high content of vitamin A can harm a baby. Omega-3 supplements made from fish meat should be consumed during this period. If you are not sure which supplement to take, I recommend that you consult your dietitian/doctor/pharmacist about it. Omega-3 supplementation during pregnancy is very valuable for both the mother’s own needs and the needs of her baby.
