WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON PENILE DISEASES?

Turkey Medicals member and hospital head of department Turkish Urology Specialist Professor Doctor… tells us more information on the subject to our patients and readers….

In men, there are many diseases that concern the penis, which is located both as a reproductive and sexual organ. Due to these diseases, a person’s sexual life is negatively affected, as well as it can lead to problems with the ability to have children.

Problems that may occur in the anatomical structure of the penis itself can be an obstacle to the functioning of the penis. In some clinical cases, the penis becomes ill by being affected by other important diseases in the body or as a result of drug treatments used for these diseases. For this reason, when it comes to penile diseases, there is an obligation to evaluate problems in a very wide range of groups. Some penile diseases can be congenital, and some can also occur later.

We have tried to list the common penile diseases in this article. Of course, it is possible to access much more detailed information in medical resources.

.
HYPOSPADIAS

It is a condition in which the urinary hole located at the tip of the penis is located not in its usual place, but at lower levels (ventrally) along the midline. It is a congenital disorder. There may be a urinary hole at the level of the foreskin of the penis, under it, in the middle of the penis, at the bottom, in the location where the testicles are located, or in the area called the perineum. With it, curvature of the penis can also be observed. The treatment is mostly surgical. Both urination and penis curvature are eliminated with early surgical intervention.

.
EPISPADIAS

It is a condition in which the urinary hole located at the tip of the penis is located not in its normal place, but at higher levels (dorsal) along the midline. It is a congenital anomaly that occurs less frequently than hypospadias. The treatment is directly surgical. It is also necessary to be careful about other accompanying urogenital anomalies.

.
CONGENITAL (CONGENITAL) CURVATURE OF THE PENIS

Congenital penile curvature is one of the most common penile diseases in childhood. In early childhood, it often does not attract the attention of the family. Families notice when children have night erections with advancing age. It will be useful for them to contact a urologist by taking a photo as soon as they observe it. Sometimes it can attract the child’s attention by the fact that there is hardening during puberty. Children during this period often prefer to hide from their parents because of their feelings of shame. For this reason, we can also encounter this disease in the adult age period. Until adulthood, a person is embarrassed and hesitates to consult a doctor. Therefore, both he experiences difficulties with sexual intercourse, and the person’s self-confidence decreases. The anatomical disorder, which was initially congenital, can then be continued with psychological problems. The treatment of congenital penile curvatures is usually corrected by surgical interventions.

.
PEYRONIE’S DISEASE (CURVATURE OF THE PENIS)

It is a disorder that occurs at an adult age. Although the person’s penis was flat in earlier periods, a curvature appeared later. In this disease, there is stiffness and plaque formation in the structure called the tunic surrounding the anatomical cylinder structures that provide hardening. As a result, both erection is impaired due to insufficient erection, and sexual intercourse cannot be experienced due to curvature of the penis. Among the causes that make up the disease, trauma is the most common. Decubitus is the most common. Peyronie’s disease can be observed after straining the penis while it is in erection. The problem can be solved without the need for surgical intervention with a number of treatments that will be applied at an early stage. After early treatments, erection capacity can be maintained and plaque development and curvature formation can be prevented. In patients admitted at a late stage, drug treatments, shock wave therapy and intra-plaque drug injections can be applied. In cases that cannot be resolved with all these treatments, the option of surgical treatment is being raised.

.
MICROPENIS (SMALL PENIS)

It is a condition where the penis size measured as stretched is below the muscle determined by age. It can be observed in childhood or in adulthood. An assessment of the situation is carried out with examinations and examinations. From the hormonal side, patients undergo special examinations. Treatment can be completed successfully with medications or surgical treatment options.

.
ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION (ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION)

There are many reasons that negatively affect the hardening of the penis. Some of them develop due to a violation of their anatomical integrity, while others occur after vascular or nervous disorders. Erectile dysfunction can also occur due to systemic diseases such as heart disease, atherosclerosis, or diabetes mellitus (diabetes mellitus), or medications used for these diseases. Sometimes, after surgical treatments applied to the pelvic region, the problem of hardening is observed. It is especially common after radical surgery for prostate cancer. With detailed examination and examinations, the cause of the problem is determined and treatment is planned accordingly. Although lifestyle changes and drug treatments are tried at the beginning, surgical treatments (penile prosthesis, happiness stick) are applied in cases where results cannot be obtained.

.
PENILE CANCER

Penile cancer is very rare in our country. It is usually more common in uncircumcised societies. It manifests itself in the form of a massive lesion on the penis. It is an important problem and mostly surgical treatment is performed and then chemotherapy or radiotherapy may be required if necessary.

.
HPV WARTS:

Genital warts, which are usually seen after sexual intercourse, are seen as skin lesions and mass lesions on the penis. It can be treated by burning or freezing. In cases where it is larger, it is necessary to remove it by surgical excision.

.
PENILE FRACTURE (PENILE FRACTURE)

It is a condition in which a tear is seen in the structure called a tunic surrounding the cylindrical structures that provide hardening after forcing the erect (hardened) penis. Most often there is a traumatic story during sexual intercourse. Swelling, bruising and pain are typical signs of the disease. It is an urgent urological pathology. The patient must necessarily be evaluated by a urologist. Hardening can be protected by early treatment, otherwise there may be a decrease or complete loss of hardening later.
