In the year 2021, the Republic of Turkey welcomed 30 million visitors by road, airport and sea borders that reached tourism revenues of $ 24.4 billion; full normalization is expected in 2022 and new records are expected in 2023 Turkish Tourism.

Turkey achieved its tourism goals in 2021, which was affected by the pandemic. Turkey Tourism 2021 revenue increased by 103 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 24 billion 482 million 332 thousand dollars. According to the tourism statistics of the Turkish Statistical Institute, personal expenses accounted for 19 billion 679 million 915 thousand dollars of this year’s income, and package tour expenses accounted for 4 billion 802 million 417 thousand dollars. In 2021, 30 million tourists came to Turkey, including 24 million 712 thousand foreigners, 5 million 326 thousand Turkish citizens living abroad at the level of 30 million. Russia ranked first with 4.6 million tourists, followed by Germany with 3.1 million tourists Ukraine with 2 million tourists.

As 2020 is a period when the pandemic is going on in severe conditions, the restrictions imposed by countries internally and internationally have been passed with closures. Turkey also went to the practice of closing its borders in the second quarter of April / May/June. Then, with the pandemic measures and vaccination studies taken, the countries determined more flexible methods. While 25 million tourists and $20 billion in tourism revenues were previously expected for 2021, these targets were revised again in November. the tourism target for 2021 was updated to 29 million visitors, $ 24 billion in tourism revenue.

TARGET 2019

Turkey’s tourism reached its best rates in history in 2019 before the pandemic. In total, almost 52 million tourists and tourism revenues exceeding $ 34 billion were reached. At the moment, it is stated that the rise of momentum in 2021 is promising after a very difficult 2020 year for the travel industry. in 2022, the first goal will be to reach the 2019 figures. In this way, it is stated that new record developments can be expected in 2023.

SPENDING HAS INCREASED

Prior to 2015, the average per capita expenditure of Turkish citizens living abroad in Turkey ranged from $1100  to $1300. Then, the expenditure, which fell into the 800-900 dollar band, exceeded the thousand dollar level again in 2021.

It seen that the average per capita expenditure of foreigners in Turkey is between $ 620 and $ 780 per year. The total per capita expenses of all tourists were on average $ 647 per decum in 2015-2020, and $ 762 per decum on average. This spending average was $ 824 in 2013 and $ 828 in 2014. The average per capita expenditure of all tourists again exceeded the level of $ 800 in 2021 and amounted to $ 834.
