What is Open Rhinoplasty?

Are you ready to learn what you don’t know about the open rhinoplasty operations that those who want to have a rhinoplasty are afraid of? Open rhinoplasty, which can be applied inevitably in some cases, offers many advantages to surgeons…

Those who think that their noses do not suit their faces or people who have respiratory problems resort to rhinoplasty, that is, rhinoplasty operations. Rhinoplasty operations can be performed with both open and closed techniques. Although the closed technique seems to have come to the fore with the developing technology, which surgical technique will be used may vary depending on the experience of the specialists performing the operation, their preferences and the structure of the bone and cartilage tissues located in the patient’s intranasal septum.

Rhinoplasty operations performed by removing an incision from the part located between the nostrils called the “columella” are called “open rhinoplasty” In this method, which provides a clear appearance of the intranasal structures, surgeons can work comfortably and easily. Since the nasal skin is removed after the incision is removed, the structures that prevent breathing in the nose are quickly detected and the latest shape is given to people’s noses within the scope of natural rhinoplasty.

The expertise and ability of surgeons affect the success of open rhinoplasty operations. As the experience increases, the results revealed improve and the likelihood of scarring decreases. Open rhinoplasty operations may also be a necessity rather than a choice. If people’s intranasal structures prevent them from breathing and these structural disorders are on a large scale, surgeons can get more positive results with an open rhinoplasty operation. In the same way, open rhinoplasty may come to the fore as the only choice after blows to the nose. It is recommended to get help from specialists who are equally proficient in open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty techniques in order to meet the needs of patients in the most accurate way.

Procedures Performed by Open Rhinoplasty Method

During open rhinoplasty operations;

Cartilage that distorts the shape of the nose, bone curvatures, depressions formed in the cartilage can be corrected. Bone curvatures located on the back of the nose can be filed precisely. The most important advantage of the open rhinoplasty technique is that surgeons can clearly observe the intranasal structures. Usually, the open surgery technique is used in functional nose surgeries, that is, in the surgeries of patients with nasal congestion problems.

People who have previously undergone rhinoplasty surgery but are not satisfied with the results or who have experienced changes in the shape of the nose as a result of the blow they received undergo revision nose surgeries. In revision nose surgeries, surgeons prefer this technique due to the advantages offered by open rhinoplasty.

In cases where open rhinoplasty is required, surgeons should be experts in open techniques. Sometimes surgeons may prefer the operation technique according to their specialty; however, this choice may reduce the efficiency of patients. As far as possible, people who are experts in both open and closed techniques should be preferred.
