Sleep apnea is a life-threatening disease characterized by stopping breathing dozens or hundreds of times during sleep due to narrowing and looseness that develops in the airway during sleep. .
BEWARE OF EXTRA POUNDS

Although it is seen in all age groups, it is common in men after the age of 40 and in women after menopause. Obesity, thick neck circumference, smoking and alcohol consumption, some genetic, hypothyroidism, medications (novelties, sleep medications..) is a risk factor for the development of sleep apnea. Anatomically small and backward jaw structure or flattening of the facial bones is more common in those with large tonsils and small tongue, those with large tongue.

.
SNORING IS VARIABLE

Snoring is typically irregular in Turkey. After the end of apnea, snoring continues with repeated breathing. Its severity is variable. It can even be heard from the next rooms, the lower and upper floors. Waking up with a feeling of suffocation from sleep is less common, but it is one of the symptoms that brings the patient to the doctor. Often, waking up in the morning with dry mouth, frequent urination at night, reflux, chest pain at night, a feeling of palpitations in the heart can be observed. The main diagnosis can be made by a sleep test.

.
CAN BE LIFE-THREATENING

Frequent recurrent drops and rises in oxygen during sleep increase the risk of heart rhythm disturbance, hypertension, heart attack, stroke, depression, forgetfulness, attention deficit, insulin resistance, Type 2 diabetes. Sleep apnea affects all systems. Low eyelid, increased intraocular pressure, edema at the bottom of the eye, lack of hearing, gingivitis, reflux, liver lubrication, pulmonary hypertension, tendency to clot in the arteries and veins, decreased sexual desire, impotence and sperm quality cause deterioration. In recent years, sleep apnea has also been shown to play a role in the development of cancer, and has been associated with lung and colon cancer.
