ISTANBUL’S LARGEST CORONA TEST LABORATORY: 10 THOUSAND TESTS PER DAY

About 10 thousand corona virus tests are carried out per day in the Laboratory of the largest of the laboratories in Istanbul, the Kanuni educational and Research Hospital, about 10 thousand test results are obtained per day. Uz, Laboratory Director of the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate, who provided information about the work in the hospital. Dr.  said: “We are catching more cases because we are doing more tests, so we are currently in Orange. If we have this limited socialization in this new normal period by following the rules announced together, if we take care of it, it can turn orange yellow, yellow blue,” he said.

Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate has 14 laboratories serving in this field in Istanbul. In addition, there are 63 special laboratories authorized by the provincial health directorate. The total number of daily tests of these laboratories is up to about 100 thousand. The laboratory at Kanuni education and Research Hospital is the largest in terms of device capacity and employee.

A team of 40 people, consisting of experts and staff, work in the hospital’s laboratory. First, it enumerates the samples that arrive in the laboratory, records them from the rooms with window sections, and then the samples that are isolated are concluded with PCR devices. The results of the samples are also examined individually on the computer screen. After the studies carried out by the expert team, the results are delivered digitally to patients between 4 and 8 hours via the E-pulse belonging to the Ministry of Health.

MUTATION TESTS

Mutation Research and tests are also carried out in the corona virus testing laboratory of the Kanuni Sultan Suleiman educational and Research Hospital. In positive samples, identified mutations such as South Africa, England, Brazil are looked at. In addition, suspected samples of the mutation, which are suspected but cannot be seen by screening, are also sent to Ankara to the laboratory at the General Directorate of public Turkish Ankara health of the Ministry of Health in Turkey.

A TEAM OF 40 PEOPLE IS WORKING

Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate Laboratory Director Sp. Dr, giving information about Laboratories, said: “As our Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate, we have 14 laboratories that provide this service in Istanbul. The largest capacity of these is the Covid test center of the Kanuni Educational Research Hospital, which we are currently talking about. Samples that come here, a team of about 40 people work here. Incoming examples are primarily accepted, evaluated. They are then taken to the isolation stage and then to the PCR study. The results are evaluated and approved by our expert friends with the help of artificial intelligence,” he said.

.
TOTAL CAPACITY OF ALL 90-100 THOUSAND

Dr. of education and Research Hospital in the laboratory by giving information about, ” the biggest reason I say; device capacity, number of experts, number of employees in terms of. There have been days when we have worked 10 thousand tests a day in this laboratory,” he said.

As for other laboratories in Istanbul, said: “as of now, we do not have such numbers because the number of samples that come from a smaller number of tests is being studied, but there were times when we gave 10 thousand tests per day. In Istanbul, 14 laboratories managed by the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate have an average test capacity of 60-65 thousand per day. It’s not being studied at the moment, it’s not coming up with so many examples, but it can get there. In addition, there are 63 private laboratories that we have authorized, authorized. The total capacity of all of them can be up to 90-100 thousand. In November November, when the pandemic was intense, we saw these figures in the middle of November. As of now, our numbers have fallen, not at this level,” he said.

.
WE ARE CONDUCTING ADDITIONAL MUTATION STUDIES ON PCR POSITIVE SAMPLES

Dr. giving information about mutation studies conducted in laboratories, said: “We are doing mutation screening studies with kits provided by our ministry for more or less 1 month. This laboratory is also a pioneer in this field, which began the first mutation studies. Then, at the moment, in our other public laboratories, 10 laboratories, we are working with kits that we call a mutation screening kit. We’re doing additional mutation studies on PCR-positive samples. We look at defined mutations like South Africa, England, Brazil. In addition, we send suspicious samples that we suspect of the mutation but do not see by screening to Ankara to the laboratory of the Ministry of Health at the General Directorate of Public Health. I wonder if there is a different mutation, they are evaluating there with more advanced, higher technology,” he said.

.
ORANGE CAN TURN YELLOW, YELLOW CAN TURN BLUE

Dr. in Istanbul Turkey continued:

“Our province is currently in Orange capacity. We’re catching more cases because we’re doing more tests, so we’re in Orange right now. This is a situation with both economic and sociological basis. People are tired of closing, they need to socialize. We understand that, but I think this period is a period that we should all own together as a society. If we have this limited socialization in this new normal period by following the declared rules together, if we take care of it, it can turn orange yellow, yellow blue. It’s completely in our hands, but it’s not just in the hands of medical professionals. As a society, we must act together here in solidarity, following the rules and taking care of them,” he said.
