POST-SURGERY SCANDAL: ‘WHERE’S MY SPLEEN?’

AF’s spleen, which was diagnosed with ‘spleen growth’ in Yalova and operated on, disappeared when he was sent to a hospital in Istanbul to determine the cause of the disease. After the spleen was lost, sent with the phrase ‘standard cargo’ instead of the cargo specified by the Ministry of Health, the Provincial Health Directorate of Yalova launched an investigation.

Media reports that AF disappeared after his spleen, which was surgically removed at a private medical facility where he was treated, was sent for testing for pathology, mobilized the Yalova Provincial Health Department.

In a statement, the directorate said: “AF’s lawyer YT’ın 29 January 2021 on the news of the criminal announcement was learned about the matter. On the same day, approved samples of all the patient’s files were requested from the private hospital in question. A necessary administrative review has been initiated by the Directorate. It focuses on the subject with sensitivity, ” he said.

.
HOW DID THE SPLEEN SENT FOR THE TEST DISAPPEAR?

In Yalova, AF was admitted to a private hospital in Çiftlik köy district with abdominal pain.

AF who underwent the necessary examinations, was diagnosed with ‘spleen growth’ and told that he needed surgery.

In addition, AF’s spleen, which was operated on November 10 last year, was completely removed and sent to the pathology service in Istanbul to determine the cause of the disease. AF was discharged 2 days after the operation and returned his Turkish house, and the test results were reported to be out within 15 days.

.
THE SPLEEN GIVEN TO THE CARGO HAS DISAPPEARED

Despite the 15-day period, when no information about the test results could be obtained, K’s son AF suspected the situation and often went to the hospital and tried to find out his father’s test results.

After that, hospital officials called UH and said that the spleen they sent was lost in the cargo branch.

.
SENT LIKE A STANDARD ITEM

As a result of his research, UH obtained photos of the cargo package of the spleen given to the cargo.

UH, who examined the photo of the cargo package, saw the phrase ‘standard cargo’ on the cargo barcode.

UH, who learned that an organ that should be sent by the Ministry of health with contracted cargoes was sent under the name of ‘standard cargo’ with an ordinary cargo company, went to his father AF and lawyer MN and filed a criminal complaint against the hospital authorities.

.
WHERE’S MY SPLEEN?

AF,’ standard cargo ‘ sent as the cargo inside the spleen was damaged and thrown in the trash, he said.

Speaking about the process, King said: “I felt my spleen was a little swollen. The doctor examined him, they filmed him. They said I needed surgery. After I had surgery, they sent my spleen to pathology. They put it in a cardboard box and gave it to the cargo. The spleen was thrown in the trash when it exploded in a cardboard box. Where’s my spleen now?”he asks.

.
WE WANT THOSE RESPONSIBLE TO BE PUNISHED

“My father was admitted to a private hospital with severe abdominal pain. After examinations, my father was told that he had no choice but to have surgery. His spleen, which was removed after my father’s surgery, was sent to Istanbul. We were told the result would come out in 15 days. After 15 days, when I stopped by the hospital, I was constantly delayed by reasons such as ‘no results, he is about to leave’. One morning, the hospital called and said the spleen was missing. The spleen, in the carton it was transported by the cargo company, explodes and is thrown in the trash. There are photos of this. He was treated the way an ordinary item was transported. I want to ask them, ‘ how do you carry a human organ in an ordinary box?’We’re going after him. My father will never know what his illness is,” he said.

.
LITIGATION PROCESS CONTINUES

AF’s lawyer MN, who stated that they had filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor’s office of the Republic of Yalova, said: “we reached the photos of the package in the cargo branch and made our criminal complaint. The compensation claim process is also ongoing. We are fighting to ensure that this intervention, which is not worthy of human dignity, is not made to others. My client has suffered material and moral damage due to this incident. His disease could not be detected for this reason,” he said.

.
ORGANS HAD TO BE PACKED IN 3 STAGES

Lawyer MN said the hospital management acted in violation of the legislation.

“The regulation has a 3-stage packaging requirement for organs to be sent for pathological examination. This is necessary so that the organs do not deteriorate on the way. According to the law No. 2238, organ transplantation or transportation is done by the Ministry of Health ‘approved by cargo companies’. The shipping company sent is not a company that has been granted permission by the ministry. As a result of the investigation, we believe that the cargo company was not aware of the incident and that the hospital was responsible,” he said.

.
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED

Yalova Provincial Health Directorate took action on the issue.

In the notification made by the Directorate, lawyer YT’s official petition application on January 29, 2021, on the same day, approved samples of all the files belonging to the patient from the private hospital in question were requested and the necessary administrative review was initiated by the Directorate. In addition, it was emphasized that the subject was emphasized with sensitivity in the information.
