WHAT IS WATER FLUORINE FOR CHILDREN?
Turkey Medicals member of hospital and department of Aesthetic Dentist, tells us more about Fluoridation of Drinking Water: When, Where and Why?
The effects of fluoride on teeth were discovered in the 1930s. It has been reported by dentists that individuals who drink naturally fluoridated water have fewer caries problems.
Societies started to put additional fluoride in drinking water in 1945. The fluoridation rate of natural fluoride in water is set to 0.7 and 1.2 (one per million) ppm. in 1945, drinking water began to be fluoridated for the first time. as a result of the 15-year study, fluoridation of waters caused a 60% decrease in caries in children.
The change in caries rates with fluoridation of drinking water throughout the country;
- In children younger than 8 years, 30%-60%.
. - 20%-40% of children aged 8-12.
. - In older children and adults, deceleration between 15% and 35% were observed.
. - A low percentage of caries has returned as fewer tooth extractions, fewer fillings, and low costs.
An average of 360 million people use fluoridated water in 60 different countries. Despite this, some oppose fluoridation. This group opposes fluoridation due to the restriction of their freedom of choice, while another group argues that fluoridation is not safe.
Up to now, it has been proven in many studies that fluoride reduces tooth decay. In the opposite direction, there are studies showing that the incidence of caries does not change according to the general population in societies that consume fluoridated drinking water, and the fact that it increases the risk of developing cancer increases the debate about systemic fluoridation.? Because of this, instead of taking fluoride with drinking water in modern dentistry, fluoride with tropical applications and toothpaste shows the desired protective effect, question marks caused by storing fluoride taken with drinking water in the body for a long period of time can be eliminated in this way.

EFFECTS OF EXCESS FLUORINE
With an excessive intake of fluoride, so-called fluorosis appears as white dots or streaks on the tooth. Severe fluorosis can cause dimples in the teeth, gray, black or brown discolorations. Sometimes formation disorders can also be observed on the enamel.
Like any prescription drug, fluorine tablets should be used according to the instructions and stored out of the reach of children. Fluorine shows a toxic effect at very high doses.
