SWELLINGS AFTER RHINOPLASTY?

Perhaps the part that patients are most worried and curious about during the rhinoplasty operation is the postoperative process. The first question that comes to the minds of patients is when the swelling and bruises will go away after surgery. But unfortunately, it is unrealistic to think that the imagined nose will be encountered as soon as you look in the mirror after the operation. Patients who have undergone rhinoplasty surgery should wait for a while to see the exact shape of their new nose.

Is it Possible to Prevent Swelling and Bruises After Nose Surgery?

First of all, it should be noted that rhinoplasty is a surgical operation performed specifically for a person. Before the operation, the doctor decides on the appropriate technique as a result of the evaluations he conducts meticulously and works diligently for the result that will please the patient the most. Not every patient is given the same application, and depending on this, patients’ postoperative experiences may also differ. But regardless of the amount varies, it is certain that bruising and swelling will be observed in all patients after nose surgery. No matter how professionally the surgical procedure is performed, and then various medications and methods are used, they can only provide some reduction in swelling, they do not completely eliminate it.

The Process After Surgery

While the amount of swelling is small in the first hours after rhinoplasty surgery, it increases as time progresses. In general, the swelling that occurs around the eyes after surgery decreases within 3-4 days. The complete dissolution of the edema around the nose will not be a quick process. Within 6 months after the operation, the swelling decreases to a very large extent, and within 1 year they are expected to disappear completely. However, the mentioned swellings are quite difficult to understand when viewed from the outside. Because large swellings disappear at a large rate in the first month after surgery. Even at the end of the first week, there is a noticeable decrease in swelling. In the remaining 6 months-1 year period, the swelling that more patients will feel will slowly dissipate. Patients may feel a heaviness in their noses at first due to these swellings, but this feeling will pass after the first weeks.

The Healing Process

For the reasons we mentioned above, the recovery process after rhinoplasty operation may also differ from patient to patient. In general, after the first week, the patient begins to recover. At first, there may be a slight pain or nasal congestion due to swelling. But soon these troubles will disappear. Many patients report that they breathe much more comfortably after recovery than before surgery.

Cold application is performed regularly for the reduction of swelling and bruises after surgery. The application called hilotherapy is performed with specially designed devices and masks until the patient leaves the room and starts during the operation. This method is performed with a controlled application at 15 degrees. If the ice application is not carried out in a controlled manner, it may cause damage to the tissues and cause a negative reaction, which is exactly the opposite of what is desired.

The post-nose surgery process does not cause you to withdraw from your social life. After a week of rest, you can return to school or work. During this healing process, you should not neglect to see your doctor regularly by following your appointments. You can do a nasal massage from the time your doctor deems appropriate. But be sure to follow your doctor’s recommendations when making any application or taking a medication. In this way, you can go through the healing process more comfortably and faster.
