HIP FRACTURES AND THEIR TREATMENT
Osteoporosis usually occurs with simple falls or osteoporosis (bone resorption) in the elderly, while in the young it usually occurs with traumas such as falls, ski accidents, traffic accidents Osteoporosis, that is, bone resorption is more common after menopause, especially in women, is the reason why a significant proportion of hip fractures that occur in old age are common in women.
A bone that has lost its healthy structure and strength can easily be broken as a result of an elderly patient’s foot tripping and falling at home in its simplest form. The slowdown in reflexes and decrease in muscle strength that develop with old age, as well as sometimes irregular blood pressure conditions, make people more open to November falls and therefore the risk of fractures.
Regardless of the cause, if the bone has been displaced in a hip fracture that has occurred, it is quite easy to make a diagnosis, even the patient himself or his relatives can notice this condition. Because the patient cannot walk and there is a sudden and very severe pain in the hip that increases with every movement he makes. But if there is no slip in the fracture, the patient can walk, albeit with a limp, and may not feel very severe pain. For a definitive diagnosis, we need an examination, X-ray images and, if necessary, a tomography in Istanbul.
A diagnosed hip fracture should be treated immediately, especially for our elderly patients. Because the metabolism of an elderly body that is tied to a bed is quickly damaged. If they have chronic diseases, they become increasingly severe. The patient drifts towards a rapid process of physical and mental deterioration. Usually this process results in the loss of the patient.
Thanks to the technological and technical developments recorded in prosthetic surgery, we are able to easily perform prosthetic surgery on our elderly patients who have suffered hip fractures, no matter how old they are (including over 80 and 90 years old).24 Hours after the prosthetic surgery takes place, we immediately get our patients up and walk them with the help of a walker, even if their age is very advanced. These walking exercises both accelerate the patient’s recovery process and instill morale in the patient.
.
Our primary goal in hip replacement is to get the patient out of bed addiction no matter how old he is, without wasting time, as soon as possible and to ensure that he walks healthy as before. The only solution for this is surgical treatment. Thanks to the prostheses, whose service life has reached 30 years with the developing technology, our patients have been having a healthy hip joint for many years.
