WHAT IS THE FLEXITARIAN DIET? WHAT ARE THE RULES AND BENEFITS FOR HEALTH?

Turkey Medicals member and Master of Science in Food Engineering tells us about flexitarian diet and benefits…

Did you know that you can eat meat despite your vegetarian diet on the Flexitarian diet, which is the healthiest diets in the world? In its most general sense, this amazing diet is a diet that allows meat and other animal-based whole foods to be limited and mainly refers to plant-based foods. The biggest advantage is that it is much more flexible than vegetarian and vegan nutrition! It may also be true to say a lifestyle that is actually more than a diet… Let’s take a look at what this diet is, which is now a favorite of healthy lifestyle enthusiasts.

It is a form of diet created so that you can consume animal foods, albeit limited, while enjoying the benefits of vegetarian nutrition. For this reason, those who follow this diet are not considered vegan or vegetarian because they can also consume animal products. In fact, the name of the diet has also been expressed with the combination of the words ‘flexible’ and ‘vegetarian’.

.
WHAT ARE THE RULES OF THE FLEXITARIAN DIET?

– It is necessary to consume mainly cereals, legumes, fruits and vegetables.

– Instead of strict rules, you can also consume meat and animal products decently more flexibly.

– Most often, instead of animal protein, you should prefer vegetable protein.

– You should consume processed foods as little as possible and natural foods much more.

– You should limit sweets that contain refined sugar.

.
SO WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF THIS DIET?

– It is a diet that is beneficial for heart health because it is a diet rich in fiber and healthy fats. It helps reduce problems in your circulatory system and prevent cardiovascular problems from occurring.

– It helps lower bad cholesterol and increase your good cholesterol levels. This also indicates a much healthier life in the long run.

– It is a diet that prevents the reduction and re-formation of fat around your waist. You will notice that you are experiencing weight loss little by little over time, as it removes high-calorie foods from your life.

– Protects you against diabetes by reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.

– It has a protective effect against colorectal cancer because you consume high levels of seeds, fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and grains. According to studies, it has been proven that people with a semi-vegetarian diet have an 8% lower risk of developing cancer than others.

.
YOU NEED TO WATCH OUT FOR

– Of course, you should exercise while also following this diet. You know that exercise is an activity that should be in healthy life, not just when dieting. For this reason, walking and jogging, albeit at a light pace for about 30 minutes a day, will be an excellent health supplement to your body.

– There is no known harm from the flexitarian diet yet. Since you consume almost every food proportionally and of course in a healthy way during the day, you can get macro- and micronutrients into your body. Therefore, it is out of the question that you will have any shortcomings.

– You should be careful to drink at least 2.5-3 liters of water per day.

– It is also useful to get enough sleep and lead a stress-free life as much as possible.

– Of course, as with any diet, after making sure that there are no health problems in your body, I say that it is worthwhile to turn to this diet under the supervision of a specialist.

Sample List;

Breakfast

Start your day with a peanut butter toast. You can also add a very small amount of natural butter to your toast. A cup of green tea with lemon and a few slices of green apple will be enough.

Lunch

Homemade burger with vegetables (be sure to add crushed avocado, broccoli or your favorite greens to it and prepare a whole grain hamburger patty)

Snacking

A few slices of pineapple with nuts will be an excellent choice.

Dinner

You can choose 1 serving of cooked chicken breast accompanied by your favorite seasonal vegetables. You can also sweeten your dish with garlic, coriander and as much as 1 teaspoon of tofu cheese.

Sweet

After combining skim milk and unsweetened cocoa powder and boiling it, you can prepare a hot chocolate and pamper yourself by adding 1 teaspoon of honey to it and sweetening it with cinnamon.
