1 OUT OF EVERY 3 CHILDREN ERRONEOUS HABITS THAT TRIGGER SUMMER ALLERGIES
Pollen, and the grass, the sun, mites, insects, foods allergy is mentioned, what brings to mind, although many factors can trigger allergies in the summer too.
Turkey Medicals member and Antalya hospital head of department Child Allergy Specialist Professor Doctor listed erroneous habits that trigger summer allergies in children.
Allergy, which is a common health problem in all age groups, is more common in childhood. So much so that in our country, one out of every 3 children is diagnosed with an ‘allergy’. The most common allergic factor in spring and summer is ‘pollen’. Mainly tree pollen is responsible for the spring period, meadow-grass pollen is responsible for the summer period, and weed pollen is responsible for the end of summer and autumn period. In addition, fungi, insects, sunlight and some nutrients are important causes of allergies in children during all three periods. The main principle of protecting children from allergic diseases is to keep them away from responsible allergens.
Child Allergy Specialist Prof. Dr. pointing out that it is extremely important for parents to avoid mistakes that trigger summer allergies, said, “Another point to be considered should not be deceived by the good weather in the summer and disrupt the treatments. Parents should always have medicines with them that will be used in case of emergency. Because especially in children with asthma and allergic rhinitis, for example, symptoms in the form of a crisis can occur after an encounter with intense pollen,”he said, explaining the 8 erroneous habits that trigger summer allergies in children:
Keeping doors and windows open
Keeping the doors and windows of the house open between 05.00-10.00 in the morning and the windows of the car open during the trip, taking the child outside for a long time during these hours increases the exposure to pollen, as there is intense pollen outdoors. Do not open the doors and windows of your home during these hours, and if possible, do not take your child out onto the street. If you need to go out with your child, do not forget to use masks, glasses and hats. Also keep the car windows closed and make a habit of turning on the pollen filter.
Drying clothes outdoors
Drying a child’s clothes outdoors during pollen-intensive hours is also one of the important mistakes made. This is due to the fact that pollen can stick to clothes and cause allergic reactions. Be sure to dry your laundry at home during the peak pollen season.
Not washing hands, face and eyes
Not washing hands, face, eyes and nose at the end of the day, continuing to wear the same clothes can also cause pollen to remain in the body for a long time. Make sure that your child takes a bath every day, if possible, and change his clothes.
Taking it outside immediately after the rain
It is necessary not to take the child out into the open air immediately after the rain. Because even though the number of pollen in the air decreases during the rain, the number of pollen in the air can rise suddenly. Therefore, if possible, take your child outside an hour after the rain. Also avoid mowing the lawn next to your child in the summer, as this will lead to his intense exposure to pollen.
Staying under the sun during these hours
The fact that the child is out between 10.00 and 16.00, when the sun’s rays are at their steepest on it, can cause sun allergy. Therefore, at this time, if possible, do not take it outside, if necessary, wear thin and long-sleeved clothes that cover your body. It is beneficial for children to receive the sun’s rays for a short time, so apply a sunscreen product to their skin 15-30 minutes after going out into the sun. Repeat the procedure every 3 hours. Do not take into account this time when you enter the sea or pool, re-feed the product to your child’s skin.
Dressing up in colorful, floral clothes
Insect allergies in children are quite common, especially in the summer season. ”Among insects, bees, mosquitoes and ants cause allergies most often,” warns Allergy Specialist who listed suggestions as follows:
.
Do not dress your child in short-sleeved and short-decked clothes outdoors, as this can attract bees and other insects. Also avoid clothes with flowers and flowers that resemble flowers, such as pink, yellow, and red, which may be of interest to bees. Another point that you should pay attention to should be the smells. Do not apply cream or cologne to your child that can emit a floral scent. These errors can lead to anaphylaxis reactions that can be fatal in children who are sensitive to insects.
.
Ignoring the pollen status
Not knowing the pollen status of the destination during the trip is still one of the important mistakes to avoid. Remember that each geographical region has its own plant diversity and pollen distribution, and therefore always take into account the pollen status when traveling.
Consuming foods that are not sure
In summer, it is more difficult for children to be protected from the foods they are sensitive to. It is very common to consume foods such as ice cream, especially in children with milk and egg sensitivity, and to mix nutrients together at hotels in Turkey. Therefore, if your child has had a nutritional anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction), be sure to prepare his meals yourself and do not give him food that you are not sure about.
