27.2 PERCENT OF TURKEY’S POPULATION IS CHILDREN

As of the end of 2020, the population of Turkey was 83 million 614 thousand 362 people, of which 22 million 750 thousand 657 were children in Turkey.

TURKEY’S CHILD POPULATION RATE IS HIGHER THAN EU COUNTRIES

When the child population rates of the 27 member states of the European Union (EU) were examined, the EU average child population rate in 2020 was 18.2 percent. Among the EU member states, the countries with the highest child population rate were Ireland with 24.2 percent, France with 21.6 percent, and Sweden with 21.1 percent, respectively. The countries with the lowest child population were Italy with 15.8 percent, Malta with 15.9 percent and Germany with 16.4 percent, respectively. Turkey’s child population rate was higher than that of EU member states at 27.2 per cent.

HIGHEST CHILD POPULATION RATE IN ŞANLIURFA

According to the ADNKS results, when the child population rates in the total population of the provinces were examined, the province with the highest child population rate in 2020 was Sanliurfa with 45.3 percent. Şanlıurfa province was followed by Şırnak with 42.8 percent and Ağrı with 40.9 percent. The three provinces with the lowest child population ratio were Tunceli with 17.3 percent, Edirne with 18.1 percent and Kırklareli with 18.7 percent, respectively.

– In 2020, 28.7 percent of the child population was in the 5-9 age group

In 2015, 27.9 percent of the child population was in the 0-4 age group, 27.7 percent in the 5-9 age group, 27.0 percent in the 10-14 age group and 17.4 percent in the 15-17 age group, while in 2020, 26.9 percent was in the 0-4 age group, 28.7 percent in the 5-9 age group, 28.2 percent in the 10-14 age group and 16.2 percent in the 15-17 age group.

– The number of babies born alive was 1 million 183 thousand 652 in 2019

– Child dependency ratio was 33.7 percent in 2020

The total age dependency ratio is defined as the number of people in the age group of 0-14 to 65 and above, per 100 people of working age in the age group of 15-64. According to adnks results, the total age dependency ratio in 2020 was 47.7 percent. For every 100 people with an age group of 15-64, the child dependency ratio, which refers to the number of children in the 0-14 age group, was 33.7 percent.

THE MOST POPULAR NAME FOR BABIES IS YUUF AND ZEYNEP

According to adnks results, the most popular baby boy names for babies born in Turkey in 2020 were Yusuf, Eymen and Mustafa, and the most popular baby girl names were Zeynep, Asel and Elif. However, boys ‘names were found to be Yusuf,

Mustafa and Demir, and girls’ names were Zeynep, Alif and Tülin, which were most commonly used in children in the 0-17 age group.

Net schooling in Turkey rate of five-year-olds was 75.1 per cent

According to the official Education Statistics of the Ministry of Education in Turkey, the net schooling rate for five years was 67.2 percent in the 2015/16 school year and 75.1 percent in the 2019/120 school year in Turkey.

– Net schooling rate at secondary school level was 95.9 percent

According to the results of the household labor force survey for 2020, the labor force participation rate of children aged 15-17 was 16.2 percent. When the labor force participation rate was examined by gender, it was found that this rate was 23.4 percent for boys and 8.6 percent for girls.

– Children with age group 2-14 had the most difficulty seeing in Turkey.

According to the results of the Turkish Health Survey 2019, upper respiratory tract infection was most common in the 0-6 age group with 35.9 percent when the types of diseases observed in children in the last 6 months were examined. This was followed by diarrhea with 28.7 percent, lower respiratory tract infection with 9.5 percent, anemia with 6.9 percent.

Upper respiratory tract infection also ranked first with 29.4 percent in children with an age group of 7-14. This was followed by diarrhea with 18.3 percent, oral and dental health problems with 14.2 percent, and eye-related problems with 10.9 percent.

– The number of children whose father died was 269 thousand 202

According to the data of the Ministry of family, labour and Social Services, the number of children under the care of the organization in Turkey in 2020 was 13,524. The current number of foster families was 6,481, and the number of children provided with foster care was 7,864. The number of adopted children was 493 in 2020.

The proportion of children given custody to the mother as a result of divorce cases was 75.8 percent

According to divorce statistics, the number of divorced couples in 2020 was 135 thousand 22. As a result of the finalized divorce cases, 124,742 children were granted custody. 75.8 percent of custody of children was given to the mother and 24.2 percent to the father in Turkey.

– Children died as a result of external injuries and poisoning

According to death and cause of death statistics, the highest number of child deaths in the 1-17 age group in 2019 were due to external injuries and poisoning. The number of child deaths in the 1-17 age group who died for this reason was 326 thousand in 2019. 877 children died due to diseases of the nervous system and sensory organs, 684 children due to benign and malignant tumors, 509 children due to congenital disorder and chromosome-related abnormalities in Turkey.

– Infant mortality rate was 9.1 per thousand
