WAYS TO PROTECT EYES FROM THE EFFECTS OF SEASONAL ALLERGY

There are a number of factors that trigger eye allergies in summer as well as in spring. Pollen, sun rays and chlorine in pools are just some of them. Here it is important to properly protect our eyes from the effects of seasonal allergic conjunctivitis. What happens if conjunctivitis is not treated? Can those with allergic conjunctivitis use lenses? What can we do to protect our eyes from pollen when we go out?

Turkey Medicals member and our Eye Diseases Specialist Operator Doctor explains to us…
.

  1. In the shot of allergic cases, the effect of pollen, sun rays and chlorine in pools is quite large. In addition, the molting season of animals such as cats, dogs and birds is more likely to coincide with the summer months, which has a serious negative effect on the eye.The main signs of allergic conjunctivitis can be considered as redness, itching, watering and light sensitivity in the eyes.
    .
  2. May, Jun and July due to meadow grass and plant pollen, the eye reacts to seasonal allergic conjunctivitis.
    .
  3. Because it is caused by pollen, it can be accompanied by other systemic findings. We may also experience problems such as sneezing, coughing and shortness of breath. In general, we encounter more in the children’s age group.
    .
  4. What is Vernal conjunctivitis, in whom is more common? There may also be involvement in the eyelids and the transparent layer of our eyes. In general, the findings appear from the age of 10. In boys, it is 4 times more common. A condition known to gradually decrease allergic conjunctivitis after the age of 20.
    .
  5. Because vernel conjunctivitis is usually in hot and dry climates, we are more common in southeastern Anatolia and eastern Anatolia in our country.
    .
  6. Day times from 11.00-16.00 Turkish eye doctors do not recommend going out too much when the sun comes upright. We also warn those who are sensitive during pollen propagation times.
    .
  7. Need to take a break from the use of decontact lenses. Decontamination of contact lenses. If you need to go out, you should wear protective sunglasses and a hat with visors. When we stay indoors, we should keep the windows closed as much as possible. Instead of ventilation, we should use air conditioners with pollen filters.
    .
  8. We recommend closing the windows when traveling in Turkey by car. We have to apply a cold compress. Applying artificial tears is useful in terms of removing pollen from our eyes. If possible, it is necessary to decongest the use of contact lenses during these periods.
    .
  9. May lead to vision loss if not treated. If left untreated, it can lead to vision loss. About 60 percent of people with allergic symptoms in both mothers and fathers have allergic eye symptoms. We define people with allergic eye conditions as atopic (genetic predisposition).
    .
  10. It occurs in people with other conditions, such as asthma, other than eye allergies. When the disease takes on a progressive and repetitive format, it can affect the transparent layer of our eyes, causing permanent vision loss.
