AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS

It is a serious neuro-developmental problem that can occur in early childhood.

Symptoms of autism problem may occur with speech or focus problems, apathy to the environment, lack of reaction in the child.

Among the problems of the autism problem;

– Speech delay in the child,

– Inability to social and communicative behavior,

– Difficulty developing and maintaining relationships,

– Repetitive motor movements, object use or speech,

– Persistence and strict adherence to stereotypical situations can be considered situations.

Developed For Children and Families!

Floortime is a comprehensive program developed for children and their families who experience many developmental difficulties, including the DIR Model, autism spectrum disorder.

The Opening of DIR:

D (Developmental) developmental

I (Individual-differences) individual differences

R (Relationship-based) means a relationship-based section.

It was Put Forward in 1979… The Floortime model aims to identify and focus, understand and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of children in particular.

In particular, it is a highly effective model for children who have significant developmental profiles with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disorders.

Model Dr. Stanley Greenspan developed and first described this model in his book “Intelligence and Adaptation”, written in 1979.

This Developmental, Individual Differences-Based and Relationship-Based model makes important contributions to the assessment and evaluation of children with developmental disabilities with the feature that it is new, inclusive and individualizable.

It is a method called Floortime (playing on the floor) for short, based on mutual relationship to support emotional and cognitive development.Floortime is an approach that uses play as a therapeutic tool, emphasizing the importance of mutual interaction involving emotion and excitement in a child’s development (AFFECT).

The Child is the Leader in This Model!

The Floortime approach, which aims to ensure that important steps related to healthy development are taken under the lens and followed up, is included as a strategy within the relationship-based model. Floortime offers an emotionally meaningful learning process, especially by encouraging developmental abilities.

Floortime takes into account the developmental characteristics of children and helps them to move to the next level through some goals.

The Floortime therapist or parent should have a positive focus with games that address the child’s interests, led by the child. At the point where the child connects with the adult individual, he is encouraged to reach a level in the hierarchy that is shaped according to his developmental characteristics.

According to this model, there are six important developmental stages that are overlooked and cannot be improved in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Developmental Stages

1- Regulation And Attention

2- Providing Togetherness

3- Ability To Communicate Two-way

4- Complex Social Problem Solving And Organization Of Behaviors

5- Representation Of Thoughts

6- Abstract Thinking

Children who do not have any problems, that is, have normal development, have achieved these stages by the age of 4-5; but in children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, there are difficulties and delays in these critical developmental features.

Floortime is not only about playing games under the leadership of the child; it is about getting involved in his world, desires and goals, ensuring common interest, developing a sense of enjoying togetherness and a desire to learn something from us.

By providing meaningful play interaction with the caregiver under the child’s leadership, these important skills can be strengthened and the child can climb the steps in the developmental hierarchy.

In summary, DIR FLOORTIME offers a multidimensional system for evaluating and supporting the development of infants and children with different developmental characteristics, and DIR Floortime can only be applied by specialized therapists in Turkey who have completed the necessary training.
