ORGAN TRANSPLANTATION DURING THE PANDEMIC
Director Of Antalya Akdeniz University Organ Transplant Center Prof. said that patients who will have organ transplants should not postpone their transplants on the grounds of the pandemic: We think that they will be helped on their journey between cities. The necessary permissions will be granted because these patients are patients who can be considered semi-urgent.
Director Of Akdeniz University Organ Transplant Center Prof. stated that organ transplantation is the only chance for many patients and said that they did not decimate their work during the pandemic period.
Prof. stated that kidney transplantation was carried out by applying all hygiene conditions at the highest level. Prof, who noted that the condition of transplant patients in the pandemic followed a critical course, said:
– The pandemic continues, but we, as an Organ Transplant Center, continue to carry out transplants. Although there is a decrease in the number of patient applications due to the pandemic, we continue our operations without cease, especially in liver and kidney transplantation.
Director Of Akdeniz University Organ Transplant Center Prof. continued;
– Certain places are reserved for organ transplant patients by creating the same conditions in operating rooms and intensive care services. When our patients do not come for organ transplants during the pandemic period, we have seen that in later periods, their distress increases.
– We believe that patients who will have organ transplants will also be helped on their long-distance journeys. The necessary permissions will be granted on this issue, because these patients are patients that can be considered semi-urgent.
