HOW DO VITAMIN AND MINERAL DEFICIENCIES AFFECT WOMEN’S HEALTH?

Severe vitamin deficiency, which is mostly observed in undeveloped and underdeveloped countries, is the main cause of many health problems. So, what health problems do vitamin and mineral deficiencies cause and what needs to be done to eliminate these deficiencies?

Turkey Medicals member and Antalya hospital Obstetrician-Gynecologist Op. Dr. explained what needs to be done for women to lead a healthy life and to protect themselves from possible gynecological diseases.

Vitamins are organic compounds that our body needs to remain in a healthy state of blood clotting, and nervous system, visual functions, the structure of the skin and the immune system in various roles, including the woman who is Doctor Op. Dr. made important statements about which vitamin deficiency sets the stage for which disease.

Vitamin D deficiency is the basis for the formation of chocolate cysts and fibroids

Op. Dr. “Vitamin D is vital for human health. Vitamin D is produced and stored in the body in a limited way. Ultraviolet B rays from the sun are the most powerful source of vitamin D. Low levels of vitamin D in women; menstrual cramps (primary dismonore), polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis (chocolate cyst), myoma, premature ovarian failure (POF), infertility (subfertilite), including a variety of pelvic and ovarian cancer can cause discomfort. The frequency of fibroids is increasing, especially when vitamin D deficiency and obesity are side by side,” he said.

Lack of B12 provokes urinary incontinence and sexual aversion

Op., who said that urine control is difficult in cases with advanced B12 deficiency. Dr. “Vitamin B12 plays an important role in the growth of nerve cells and the repair of all cells, especially. The most obvious harm of vitamin B12 deficiency is serious damage to the nerves, leading to the appearance of permanent nerve problems. In cases where B12 deficiency reaches serious proportions, urinary incontinence may occur due to this destruction of the nervous system. In addition, loss of sexual performance, menstrual irregularities are other problems caused by vitamin B12 deficiency,” he said.

The cause of menstrual irregularities and weakness may be iron deficiency

Op. Dr. “Iron deficiency occurs when there is not enough iron mineral in the body. This leads to a decrease in the number of red blood cells (red blood cells) and a condition that we call ‘anemia’ or ‘anemia’. A decrease in the level of iron in the body can be attributed to abnormal and severe menstruation, as well as causes such as impaired iron absorption. Therefore, when investigating the cause of anemia, abnormalities in the menstrual cycle of women should be questioned and an appropriate treatment procedure should be performed. In the treatment, methods such as hormonal birth control, iron supplementation may be recommended, as well as operations involving some surgical procedures to be performed in the uterus in severe cases,”the statement said.

Vitamin C protects against sexually transmitted infections

“Vitamin C, one of the antioxidant vitamins, has important tasks in protecting against infectious diseases and cancer, strengthening the immune system,” Op. Dr. continued his remarks as follows:

“Vitamin C, which has antioxidant properties, reacts with free radicals and neutralizes them. As a result, it prevents free radicals from damaging cells in a genetic sense. Its importance for women’s health is its protective effect against gynecological cancers and sexually transmitted diseases. In addition, recent research shows that vitamin C helps prevent pregnancy poisoning (preeclampsia) and contributes to the formation of an amniotic sac.”

Vitamin A deficiency is the cause of premature birth, calcium deficiency is the cause of early menopause

Dr. “Vitamin A helps to form teeth, skin and soft tissues. It also plays an important role for eye health by producing pigments that give color to the retina of the eye. Vitamin A deficiency, on the other hand, can cause much more damage to the systems and organs we are talking about. When not enough vitamin A is taken, many people face the problem of infertility. Vitamin A deficiency, especially in childhood, is a serious obstacle for many couples to have children at a later age. On the other hand, a lack of vitamin A during pregnancy can lead to premature birth, low birth weight and liver failure,” he said.

Stating that women who experience calcium deficiency face the risk of early menopause, Op. Dr. “Early menopause, which is a condition of permanent interruption of the menstrual cycle before the age of 40, can lead to serious health problems such as infertility (infertility), osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases and stroke in the long term. Therefore, in order to delay this destructive effect, it is necessary to take measures against early menopause. Studies show that in women who receive the most calcium from food sources, early menopause is observed 13 percent less frequently. It will be right to consume calcium-rich foods and take supplements when necessary,”he explained.

Folic acid deficiency can lead to defective delivery

Stating that folic acid has many important functions in the body, Op. Dr. “Folic acid is found naturally in the content of many foods or in various supplement products. Because it plays an important role in cell division, it is an extremely important vitamin to consume at an adequate level during periods of rapid growth such as pregnancy, infancy, and adolescence. Folic acid deficiency, especially in pregnant women, can lead to neural tube disorders such as spina bifida and anencephaly. Consumption of legumes, asparagus, eggs, green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, nuts, veal liver, tropical fruits that are rich in folic acid content is important for maintaining folic acid levels,” he said.
