IN WHO?

Deficiency is common in vegans (strict vegetarians) who consume no animal products at all. B12 deficiency is not seen in vegetarian diets because they consume milk, yogurt, eggs. In addition, in general, today’s diet consists of foods that are weak in terms of vitamin B12. Stomach diseases and drugs such as cancer-ulcers prevent the absorption of this vitamin, causing B12 deficiency. Again, drugs such as metformin, used to treat diabetes and obese people with insulin resistance, also lead to vitamin B12 deficiency. Alcohol consumption in Turkey is also among the causes of B12 deficiency.

WHAT ARE SYMPTOMS?

B12 deficiency is manifested by symptoms such as chills, fatigue, weakness, depression, difficulty concentrating, palpitations, balance problems, hair loss, tingling in the hands and feet in adults.

WHAT CAUSES PROBLEMS?

Vitamin B12 is an important vitamin that the body needs to make blood. Deficiency of perniciosis leads to anemia called anemia. It is also very important for the nervous system. Because the neurotransmitter called acetylcholine provides intercellular information communication. This communication cannot be achieved when B12 is missing in the body. HOW IS IT DIAGNOSED?
