IT WAS FEARED: THE ALARM OF THE NEW CORONA VIRUS VARIANT IN EUROPE

The corona virus continues to mutate from the first day of its appearance, increasing its effect with new variants. New measures have been put in place due to the Omicron variant, which has alarmed the whole world, especially Europe, while the feared news has come from France. French authorities have announced that they have come across a new variant of the corona virus in Marseille.

While there was concern about the Omicron variant of the corona virus all over the world, there was a frightening news from France.

France announced that they had encountered 12 cases with the new mutation, the first of which was from a passenger traveling from the African country of Cameroon.

The variant was first noticed on December 10, 2021 by scientists at the Méditerranée Infection University Hospital Institute (IHU) on patients in the Alpes-de-Haute region. 12 cases in which this ‘non-typical combination’ variant was detected near the Marseille region have also been recorded. According to Professor the head of the department who first identified the situation, the variant was called the ‘IHU variant’.

.
MORE RESISTANT TO THE VACCINE

The scientists explained that this new mutant variant has 46 mutations that are both more resistant to the vaccine and more contagious.

However, experts believe that the Omicron variant, which currently accounts for more than 60 percent of cases in France, is still dominant.

Similar symptoms and a variant of IHU were detected in 12 people who arrived in France from the African country of Cameroon. The detection of cases in Marseille surprised scientists.

The new variant has not yet been detected in a different country and is not a variant being investigated by the World Health Organization, it said.

.
THE NAME OF THE VARIANT IS IHU

Professor, head of the unit that discovered the new variant, said in a statement: “Indeed, there are several cases of this new variant in the Marseille geographical region. We have named it “variant IHU”. Two new genomes have just been sent.” said.

Among the 46 mutations, E484K and N DEC01Y mutations were observed in the tests performed on the variant. It is known that the first is more resistant to the vaccine, the second mutation detected in the Alpha variant of the first also increases the infectiousness.

.
DESCRIPTION OF THE NEW IHU VARIANT IN EUROPE FROM WHO

The WHO has issued a comforting statement regarding the new variant that has been detected in Europe and is causing concern.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that the variant detected in France, which caused concern, is not a major threat.

The variant in question was first detected in November 2021 and has not posed a major threat since, WHO official said, “The variant is on our radar. He had many chances to move forward,” he said.

The news that the new Covid-19 variant with 46 mutations has a high rate of spread and is resistant to the vaccine had caused concern.

The new variant, identified in the same period as the Omicron variant that appeared in South Africa and led to a record-breaking number of cases in many countries, was first seen in 12 people in France.

Scientists at the Méditerranée Infection University Hospital Institute (IHU), who identified the new variant, had published a paper at the end of December 2021 in which they drew attention to atypical mutations. “It is too early to make claims about the virological, epidemiological and clinical characteristics of this new IHU variant,” was said.
