So, what is infertility (Infertility), how is it diagnosed? Here is information about the symptoms, causes and treatment of infertility in Turkey.
Infertility does not actually mean infertility exactly. Infertility is the absence of the possibility of having a child spontaneously or with any medical methods and technologies. What is infertility?
Infertility is defined as the inability to achieve an active pregnancy after having regular sexual intercourse without protection and contraception for a year.
What are the symptoms of infertility?
The main symptom of infertility is the inability to get pregnant. There may be no other obvious symptoms. Sometimes women with infertility may have irregular or no menstrual periods at all. In some cases, men with infertility may have some signs of hormonal problems, such as changes in hair growth or sexual function.
How is infertility diagnosed?
After the obstetricians and urologists have examined the men and women physically, some tests are performed. These tests include special tests such as hormone testing, genetic testing, testicular biopsy, in men. In women, on the other hand, it requires examinations such as blood tests, measurement of hormone levels, imaging of the uterus with hysterosonography, ovarian reserve test and pelvic ultrasound to assess the quality of the egg.
What are the causes of infertility?
Turkey Medicals member and Mugla hospital Obstetrics, Gynecology and In Vitro Fertilization Specialist Op. Dr. explains the causes of infertility as follows;
When couples admitted to an infertility clinic are examined, 40% female-related causes, 40% male-related causes, and 20% female- and male-related causes make up the unexplained infertility group with unexplained infertility in 20%.
Causes that depend on the woman:

– Structural disorders of the uterus; Septum, subseptum, uterus didelphys(double uterus) and the endometrium of the uterus, such as congenital deformities, as may be subsequently(the lining of the uterus where the embryo settled layer) disrupts the integrity of interventions such as surgery and abortion. Some fibroids and intrauterine polyps, depending on their location and size.
– Genetic problems; Genetic disorders affecting the number and structure of chromosomes, such as Turner syndrome, inversion, trans location, can adversely affect embryo development.
– Systemic diseases; Thyroid disorders,diabetes,kidney diseases,anemia.
– Endometriosis.
– Environmental factors, chemicals or radiation exposure that may impair egg quality.
– Chemotherapy for therapeutic purposes, radiotherapy.
– Disorders of sexual function, vaginismus.

Male-related causes:
– Undescended testicle.
– Mumps infection that has been passed on during or after puberty.
– Past testicular operations, trauma or infections (orchitis).
– Varicocele; may cause an increase in heat, disrupting sperm count and motility.
– Chemotherapy for therapeutic purposes, radiotherapy.
– Blockages that prevent the outflow of sperm, systemic diseases (cystic fibrosis, diabetes, retrograde ejaculation).
– Environmental factors; air pollution, smoking, alcohol use, chemicals or prolonged exposure to excessive heat.
