ABOUT MENISCUS TREATMENT IN TURKEY

The meniscus is a cartilaginous knee joint tissue that forms the knee joint, provides harmony between the femur bone above and the tibia bone below, and acts as a buffer for knee-riding loads.

In meniscus tears, the torn part damages the cartilage that makes up the joint, causing it to wear out. This cartilage damage is the cause of calcification that will occur in the future. At first, the feeling of locking and sticking in the knee creates a constant knee pain in the later periods.

.
WHO DOES MENISCUS DISORDERS OCCUR IN?

Meniscal difficulties occur due to factors such as excess weight, heavy sports activities performed mostly unconsciously, aging. These strains or blows lead to tears in the meniscus. Although it is usually seen in athletes and people who work hard, meniscus is a condition that is becoming more and more common today. In addition, patients who do not have all these factors, the meniscus may wear out, wear out and tear by itself due to purely anatomical predisposition (such as a braces leg) and genetic reasons.

.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?

When you stay still for a while, there is a feeling of locking in the knees

Feeling of pain and tripping when descending stairs and downhill descent

Feeling of tension and pain in standing up, squatting on the ground and prayer movements

.
NON-SURGICAL TREATMENTS:

Not all meniscal tears require surgery. Small tears and tears that have not entered the joint correctly do not need surgery, as they will not damage the cartilage. Surgery for these types of conditions can do more harm than good. For this reason, it is appropriate to arrange various intra-knee injections, exercises, physical therapies for the patient’s comfort.

.
MENISCUS TREATMENT WITH ARTHROSCOPIC (CLOSED) SURGERY

Closed, that is, Arthroscopic method is an operation method performed by entering into the knee through at least 2 holes from the front of the knee, viewing all of the intra-knee structures with the help of a special camera, in cases where safe surgery in Turkey JCI hospitals is inevitable.

In this way, first of all, a visual examination of the inside of the knee joint can also be performed at the first stage, and pathologies that cannot be detected on MRI are detected.

Later, meniscus tears, cartilage disorders, intra-articular free bodies and excessive bone protrusions are cleaned and corrected by looking with a camera on the one hand with tools specially developed for this surgery, on the other hand.

After the operation, the patient can get up immediately on the same day, step and walk by putting a load on it. There is only one elastic bandage on the knee. He is discharged the next day. after 1 week, there is a Turkish doctor’s check-up, but during this period, in general, it is free to do everything about daily life.

The string special exercise program starts immediately after the operation. the return to sports is final after 6 weeks.
