Gynecomastia Surgery

Gynecomastia disease, which we have seen quite often in recent years, means female-type breast growth in men. If it is just emerging outside of infancy, adolescence and old age, the underlying cause should definitely be investigated, some medications used, hormonal imbalances, hormones taken from outside, some types of cancer can lead to gynecomastia.

Who is gynecomastia surgery performed on?

If you have gynecomastia disease, you should first be evaluated by an endocrinologist, it should be determined that there are no hormonal disorders or underlying diseases. If not, a surgical procedure may be performed on you.

Before surgery

Before the operation, a detailed physical examination is performed on the patients and breast ultrasound is performed. As a result of these, it is evaluated whether there is breast tissue or whether it is a breast rich in fat. This is an important detail because the surgical technique is decided accordingly. If there is no breast tissue, if it is rich in fat, liposuction may be enough, but if there is a lot of breast tissue (as in women), then only liposuction is not enough, it is entered through an incision made under the nipple and the excess tissue is removed.

In some cases, especially in patients who have lost excessive weight, there is also an excess of skin, as in women. In this case, in order to remove the excess skin, it may be necessary to remove the excess skin by making an incision from the part of the breast called the lower sulcus.

Conditions such as whether you have a disease, smoking, and the use of blood-thinning medications are also important for this surgery. You should definitely tell these to your plastic surgeon.

Gynecomastia Surgery

As a result of the preoperative evaluations, it is decided which technique to use and drawings are made accordingly. Gynecomastia surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The duration of the operation varies between 1-3 hours depending on the technique to be applied. Regardless of which technique is used, all patients are dressed in a corset for 6 weeks.

After surgery, it is usually enough to stay in the hospital for one night. you can start your business after 1 week and sports within 3-4 weeks.
