So on our way to breast augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular plastic surgeries with the highest satisfaction rate. Moreover, it is technically a simple operation. There are a few options that need to be decided. If these decisions are made correctly, the result will be laughable. Some of the issues to be decided are the following: What will be the size of the implant? Where will the implant be placed? Which layer will the implant be placed in? etc.. Most of these decisions will be made according to the anatomical structure of the patient and the preference of the surgeon. Except for one! When deciding on the size of the implant, the patient’s word is yours. We surgeons can only make some suggestions. It is very important to determine the implant size correctly here. The “successful result” we aim for is as follows: “The patient should be satisfied with the result at least 6 months after the operation, and after that”. This means that we do not aim for satisfaction in the short term. The important thing is that the patient is satisfied in the long term. Therefore, it is important to listen to the patient when deciding on the implant size, thoroughly understand the size he wants, well understand the appearance he wants in the breast and guide him in the light of our experience. While doing these things, the socio-economic status of the patient should also be reviewed and these decisions should be made in this way. Although the body structures are the same, the same implant may not be suitable for a high school teacher and a mannequin. For example, putting very large implants in a swimmer or ballerina will affect her work. In the same way, a model who makes money with her image can be given slightly exaggerated breast implants, enough to make her breasts stand out.

We need to help the patient make this important decision. There are some computer simulations that show the breast size that may occur after surgery. 3D photos of the patient are taken and shown in 3D on the computer how he will be after the operation. To be honest, I don’t like these simulations at all, because I think it’s very unnecessary. We are applying a much simpler and, in my opinion, more useful technique for deciding the size of a breast implant. For this purpose, we want the patient to come to the examination with a bra without sponge support and a thin T-shirt. There are different breast implants in various sizes and shapes in our clinic. We use them for experiments. We listen to the patient’s request and choose an eye-deciding implant. The patient places this implant inside the bra so that it comes under the breast. He’s wearing his thin T-shirt on it. She looks at the patient’s image in front of the mirror, and if she thinks her breast size is small, she tries an older one. In the end, he decides on a certain size. My advice to the patient is to use an implant that is 10-20% larger than the size we have determined. There are 2 reasons for this. First, when the implant is placed inside the tissue, it enlarges the breast slightly less than when it is placed outside the breast. Especially if the implant is placed under. Another reason is that these patients usually say “I wish I had made it a little bigger” some time after the operation.. Therefore, it would be appropriate to put the experimental implants in this bra and use a slightly larger size that we have determined.

Decisions such as whether the implant is a drop or round, rough or flat surface features, where to put it, which layer are usually determined by the surgeon, taking into account factors such as the patient’s body, breast structure, socio-cultural characteristics. The size of the breast implant is mostly determined according to the patient’s wishes. The technique of placing experimental implants in a thin bra is a technique that gives very simple and accurate results for determining the size of breast implants. For this reason, when coming to the examination for breast augmentation surgery, we would like to come wearing a thin bra without sponge support and a thin T-shirt or shirt on it.

NOTE: One thing that patients often say is: “If I had known it would be so easy, I would have had it done earlier..” We also often hear this word.
