PROTECT YOURSELF FROM DISEASES WITH GOOD ORAL HEALTH

Do you know how intraoral bacteria can damage your body? A bad oral and dental health negatively affects your entire body, blood circulation, and organs. For this reason, you should not neglect your Istanbul dentist checks.

Turkey Medicals – we know that dental health affects our entire body, so we answered the questions from you…

What are the symptoms of oral cancer?

There are two types of lesions that are suspected of cancer or are likely to turn into cancer: white lesions (leukopylakies) and red lesions (erythroplakies). Red lesions are much less common, but they have a much greater risk of developing into cancer. If the red or white lesion does not go away on its own within two weeks, it should be re-evaluated and a biopsy should be taken for a definitive diagnosis. Other symptoms of oral cancers:

Difficulty chewing or swallowing,

Numbness of the tongue,

Hoarseness of voice,

Pain in the ear,

Difficulty in tongue or jaw movements.

Lumpy protrusions or thinning of soft tissues inside the mouth. If any of these symptoms appear for more than two weeks, an examination and the necessary laboratory tests should be performed without fail.

What are the risk factors for oral cancer?

Factors that increase the risk of developing oral cancer include:

Tobacco and alcohol use,

Prolonged exposure to the sun (especially in lip cancer),

Age (The risk of oral cancer increases with age),

Gender (The risk of occurrence in men is twice as high as in women).

Race (the black race has twice the risk of developing cancer compared to the white race) is the first of these risk factors, and smokers who smoke, which causes 90 percent of all cases, have six times more risk than non-smokers.

How can we reduce the risk of oral cancer?

Many cases of oral cancer are preventable. Of these cancers, 70 percent are associated with tobacco and alcohol use. If you use these two, your risk of developing cancer is much higher. To reduce the risk, you should stay away from tobacco use, reduce the amount of alcohol you take, use a sunscreen moisturizer to protect your lips, and consume plenty of vegetables and fruits.

What should be done to detect oral cancer?

Early detection is very important in oral cancers. Oral cancers spread very quickly, only half of the cases seen can live for five years after their diagnosis. Your dentist should do cancer screening for the mouth at least once a year. The scan should include the entire face, lips, head and neck, the inside of the lips, gums, the inside of the cheeks, the bottom of the mouth, the surfaces of the tongue and the palate. New types of oral cancer examinations also include fluorescent lights and special mouthwashes and dyes. With these help, the doctor can detect abnormal changes in the mouth and throat much more conveniently and accurately

INTRAORAL BACTERIA AFFECT THE HEART

What is the relationship dec heart disease and gum disease?

If your doctor in Istanbul says that your cholesterol is too high and your risk of developing heart disease is twice that of normal people, would you do something about it? Many people do. He meets with a dietician, enters into a regime or, more simply, changes the way he eats. Now you have discovered that gum disease doubles the risk of heart disease, and you are one of a million people who complain of this condition. Can you arrange an appointment with your dentist? According to some studies, gum disease is a stronger risk factor than many causes associated with heart disease (hypertension, high cholesterol, age, gender). Intraoral bacteria can affect the damaged heart, and some bacteria in the mouth can cause platelets to accumulate. New findings have revealed how and why bacteria that cause gum disease increase the risk of heart disease. It is noted that the risk of a fatal heart attack in people with gum disease is twice as high as in people without gum disease, while the risk of having a stroke is about three times higher. It is estimated that the most common type of streptococcus from intraoral bacteria enters the bloodstream through open wounds. Bacteria cause an increase in platelets, blocking blood vessels and forming a blood clot that affects the heart valve.

.
SMOKING DELAYS RECOVERY

What is the relationship dec tobacco use and gum disease? We already knew the relationship between tobacco use and lung cancer and heart disease. But did you know that tobacco causes various damages, from a bad smell in the mouth to oral cancer?

According to non-smokers, gum disease, dental calculus, caries (from dry mouth) and even tooth loss (from gum disease) are much more common in smokers. Smoking also delays healing after tooth extraction or surgical interventions. In addition, smoking also damages the successful fusion of the implant with the bone. Recent studies have shown that smoking is one of the main risk factors for gum disease. Research has shown that smoking; oral hygiene has shown to be the strongest cause of gum disease when compared with variables such as age, gender, systemic disease, drug use, and the frequency of dentist checks. The predisposition of smokers to gum disease begins at a much younger age, and cases are much more severe. Researchers have found that smoking increases the predisposition to tooth loss and complete toothlessness fourfold. When a smoker needs periodontal treatment, deep gum pockets are found during preliminary examinations. In addition, if smoking continues after treatment, these pockets cannot be recovered for a long time. The response to treatment is not very good, and recovery becomes much slower.

RISKY OPERATIONS SHOULD BE POSTPONED DURING PREGNANCY

What recommendations can you give to a pregnant patient undergoing dental treatment?

The first goal of dental treatment during pregnancy is to carry out the necessary treatments without causing side effects to the mother or the developing baby. Large or risky transactions should be postponed as much as possible. But it would be unreasonable not to do the necessary treatment, and it can become more dangerous than the negative side effects that can normally occur during treatment. For example, if there is a bruise near the nerve and this bruise can cause an infection and harm your baby, it would make sense to solve this problem in no time. Pregnant women are advised to have a dental cleaning at least once during pregnancy to prevent the risk of gingivitis (gingivitis) of pregnancy, which is manifested by inflammation, bleeding, and swelling of the gums. Pregnancy gingivitis is caused by an exaggerated body response to bacterial plaque that occurs due to the action of hormones that increase during pregnancy. Fluorine support is recommended during the third month of pregnancy, because it is during this period that the baby’s teeth begin to form. It is recommended to refrain from X-ray treatment unless necessary in an emergency. If an X-ray is to be taken, it is necessary to protect the abdominal area with a worn bird’s vest. In addition, the dentist should not use drug needles and drugs that can pass through the placental barrier of the baby during treatment. No matter what medication you are taking, first get your obstetrician’s oany. Patients with anxiety problems should avoid sedatives during pregnancy.

.
TEETH CLEANING CAN BE DONE

At what stage of pregnancy should dental treatments in Istanbul be performed?

In addition to emergency procedures, only preventive procedures and Istanbul dental cleaning can be performed in the first three months. The most ideal period for dental treatments is the second trimester, when the period of formation of the most critical body parts of the child is over, the risk is minimal. If the patient is comfortable, treatment can be continued in the third trimester.
