Facelift

With advancing age, as in all parts of the body, a number of changes are observed on our face as signs of aging. Wrinkles on the skin, sun spots, sagging eyebrows, bags under the eyes, excess skin on the eyelids, sagging cheeks and tissue reduction, wrinkles and sagging neck skin are the most common problems. These problems are tried to be eliminated with facial rejuvenation surgeries.

Facial Aging

The signs of aging on the face do not develop in the same way in everyone. It varies depending on many factors such as race, genetics-familial structure, climate-environment, facial skeleton and skin structure, weight-social life, etc. For example, wrinkles on the skin begin to appear at an early age in people with white skin-colored eyes, while in people with plump cheeks-dark skin, the cheeks may sag at an earlier age. In Asian societies, the middle face is underdeveloped compared to the lower face, that is, the cheekbones are not prominent- the upper jaw is located slightly behind; middle-face aging and sagging of the cheeks are seen at an early age. Signs of aging begin to appear early, as excessive weight gain and loss impair the elasticity of the skin.

Taking into account all anatomical units in terms of signs of aging, the face is evaluated in three main sections:

– Upper face section : Wrinkles in the forehead and temple area-sagging, lowering of the eyebrow with age, excess skin on the upper eyelid are evaluated in this area and appropriate solutions are produced.

– Midface section: It is the section between the lower eyelids and the edge of the lower jaw. The problems related to aging on the lower eyelids and cheeks are solved by using various surgical techniques.

– Lower face section: Covers the entire length from the edge of the lower jaw. Wrinkles and sagging fat excess of this region are evaluated and a surgical approach is applied according to the problem..

From person to person, the aging effects may be greater in some parts of the face and less in some parts. In facial rejuvenation procedures, wrinkles on the skin and sagging soft tissues are evaluated first. If there are only skin wrinkles on the face and the sagging in the soft tissues is not excessive, botox, fillers, peels (chemical, laser, etc.) are the most suitable solution.) or fat injections from his own tissue may be recommended.

If the signs of aging on the face are more pronounced, that is, if there are sagging eyebrows, excess skin on the eyelids and bags, sagging cheeks and deep cheek lines, wrinkles and sagging neck, surgical procedures are required. For these 3 areas on the face, surgery can be performed separately or together according to the requirements.

Facial Rejuvenation, Stretching, Lifting Surgeries

The most common surgical procedure performed in the upper facial region is to provide a natural rejuvenation by bringing all the soft tissues that hang down over the bone structure in the forehead, eyebrow and temple area (endoscopically) and giving the face an aged appearance back to their youthful places and detecting them to the bone. This procedure is performed through a 3-4 cm incision made from the scalp and by means of a camera with an endoscopic system. Then, the excess skin and fat of the upper eyelid are corrected (according to the eyebrow that has come to its correct place). The operation takes about 2 hours, recovery takes an average of 1 week.

Mid-face rejuvenation surgery is performed with an incision on the lower eyelid just below the eyelash (which leaves almost no marks). Natural rejuvenation is achieved by bringing the cheek soft tissue (skin, adipose tissue and muscles) back to their youthful places and detecting the bone structure, which hangs down over the cheekbone and makes the rim lines prominent. The operation takes about 2 hours and the recovery is 1 week.

There are many techniques in lower face, i.e. neck area rejuvenation surgeries. It is most often performed with an incision that starts in front of the ear and turns behind the ear. To correct wrinkles and sagging in the skin and soft tissues; first, the tissue called SMAS (which has a strong connective tissue content), which holds the subcutaneous soft tissues in it, is pulled from under the skin and suspended to the bone structure behind the ear. Then, the skin is rejuvenated by removing the excess ones in the appropriate position and without overstretching. When excessive stretching is applied to the skin, there is a risk of expansion of the permit. The operation takes about 2 hours, recovery takes 1 week.

All facial rejuvenation surgeries are performed with general anesthesia. The operation varies between 2 and 6 hours depending on the procedures to be performed. Depending on the duration of the operation of the patient, it may be necessary to stay in the hospital for 1-2 days. Recovery takes an average of 7-10 days. Most of the stitches are self-dissolving ones, but they are removed in 6-7 days because the stitches on the eyelids are very thin and non-melting stitches. Antibiotic and pain relieving treatment is applied for up to 1 week after surgery.
