HOW WE CAN GET RID OF OUR BAD MEMORIES?

Severe trauma can leave a mark. Bad memories that are not forgotten, on the other hand, lead to problems such as fear, depression. So is it possible to get rid of them? Here is the response of Turkish Psychiatrist Doctor…

To relax by understanding the disturbing events, memories and unrest that we cannot get rid of the effect of EMDR therapy stating that there is a psychotherapy method that the following is about it.

.
HOW IS IT APPLIED?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is translated into Turkish as “Desensitization and Reprocessing by Eye Movements”. It is not a hypnosis method, and the client is awake and conscious throughout the therapy. First of all, the memories of the clients are determined. Then, while the target memories are being reached, two-way stimuli are given to the client.

.
NEW INFORMATION IS FORMED

These stimuli can be in the form of eye movements, giving audible stimuli from two ears, or giving two-way tactile stimuli. These two-way stimuli are the main method of this therapy and affect the result. Between these stimuli and the two decimals of the brain passage is provided. Therefore, the memory areas of negative experiences can be accessed much faster. Thus, instead of our fearful, anxiously stored memory, new information is created that we are safe and strong, that we can protect ourselves, that we can trust ourselves. Since accessing previous memories can cause intense anxiety in the client, the person who performs EMDR therapy must have clinical experience and have provided a safe therapist-client relationship with the client.

.
WHAT IS EFFECTIVE IN?

With EMDR therapy, we can get rid of the bad effects of traumatic events such as accidents, earthquakes, wars, harassment, violence on us. EMDR therapy lasts shorter than other therapies. But how long it will last is determined by the patient’s mental state, the complexity of the trauma he is experiencing, the presence of another accompanying psychiatric illness, the patient’s psychosocial support systems. Although problems can sometimes be solved in one session in this therapy, it is recommended that feelings and thoughts be resolved in 3 sessions it is processed. The number of sessions may increase with complex traumas.

.
DOES LOVE MAKE YOU FORGET ABOUT PAIN?

There is no therapy yet that can completely erase painful memories from memory. However, with EMDR, it is possible to make these memories more painless and manageable. Even if traumatic memories are remembered, depression, a feeling of hopelessness and worthlessness we can stop being the focus of our lives. So we can start a healthier and happier relationship.
