DON’T NEGLECT CANCER SCREENINGS

February 4 was designated as World Cancer Day by the Organization for Cancer Control (UICC) in order to attract attention and raise awareness. The Cancer Control Organisation aims to raise awareness of the disease with the slogan ‘I am determined and I will‘ on World Cancer Day.

Cancer, overshadowed by the worldwide agenda of the corona virus epidemic, remains the most important disease of our time. February 4 is celebrated as World Cancer Day in order to raise awareness of cancer, which takes about 10 million lives in the world every year.

.
WHAT IS WORLD CANCER DAY?

The UICC aims to prevent millions of cases of preventable death by raising awareness and education about cancer on Cancer Day. It also invites governments and individuals to take action on cancer.

World Cancer Day was first organized by the International Organization for Cancer Control (UICC) in 2005. In the same year, it was launched by the Turkish Association of Cancer Research and fighting institutions in our country and became one of the largest campaigns on cancer in the world and in our country.

.
MOTTO OF THE YEAR: I AM DETERMINED AND I WILL

The International Cancer Control Association chose “#IAmAndIWill” as its theme this year, with the slogan “I am determined and I will.” The captain says it’s a call to action. “This commitment to action was created with the expectation that it would lead to strong progress in reducing the global impact of cancer. “Cancer is disease that occurs when changes in a group of normal cells in the body lead to uncontrolled, abnormal growth that forms a lump called a tumor,” he said. This applies to all cancers except leukemia (blood cancer). If left untreated, tumors can grow and spread to surrounding normal tissue or other parts of the body through blood circulation and lymphatic systems. It can even affect the digestive, nervous and circulatory systems or release hormones that can affect body function.

.
DON’T NEGLECT CANCER SCREENINGS

Obstetrician Professor Of Obstetrics And Gynecology Dr. warned:’ Do not neglect cancer screenings for fear of corona.’ Poplar noted that cancer, the most important disease of our time, has recently been neglected due to the corona virus pandemic, “regular early diagnosis for cancer screening, cancer prevention and early diagnosis is the most important part. But the fact that the whole world has been fighting the pandemic since 2020 has also negatively affected the regular screening of cancer,” was said.

.
WORLD SCREENING RATES DOWN

Cancer was formerly known as a’ relentless ‘or’ helpless ‘ disease. But now there has been a serious awareness in society that this disease can be treated, and most importantly, preventable. But that’s not enough yet, we have a long way to go. We had a setback at this point, especially in the pandemic. Many people have neglected life-saving cancer screenings for fear of going to hospital. This, in turn, could have very serious consequences in the coming period. For this reason, re-entering this issue on the agenda of society on World Cancer Day will make a serious contribution to raising awareness of cancer.

Calling on those who are afraid to go to the hospital in the pandemic, Poplar said: “research safe hospitals that rigorously implement measures in terms of Covid-19, separating some floors for Corona patients, preventing contact with other patients. Don’t be afraid to go to these hospitals. Especially those at risk for cancer, those with suspicious complaints should have the necessary screening tests. Patients who turn the corona into a phobia should try to get rid of these phobias, go to their doctor and remember that an early diagnosis of cancer will save lives.”
