WHICH SKIN DISEASES INCREASE IN THE FACE AREA IN WINTER?

Turkey Medicals member and Turkish Dermatology Specialist Doctor said that with the arrival of the winter months, there may be an increase in some skin diseases along with some changes in the skin.

A layer of fat (lipid) that surrounds the outermost part of the skin creates an effective barrier that prevents water loss from the skin, said, Dermatology Specialist Doctor “There are many factors that disrupt this protective barrier, and the most important of them is the cold. Especially with the increase of cold on the skin of the face, increased dryness and subsequent exacerbations of some previously existing skin diseases may develop. 3 of these skin diseases are skin diseases such as Atopic Dermatitis (Baby eczema), Seborrheic Dermatitis (Oily eczema) and Rosacea (Rose disease),” he said.

The most important discomfort that occurs on the skin of the face due to cold is a type of eczema called Atopic Dermatitis, which manifests itself as redness of the cheeks, itching watery wounds in infants, said, “This type of eczema that occurs on the skin of the face of infants exposed to cold, especially on the cheeks, can be observed quite often in infants. If not treated properly, it can worsen the quality of life of the baby due to intense itching, which progresses more and more.

For this reason, in winter, the skin of babies should be moistened with appropriate creams, as they can easily dry out. Seborrheic Dermatitis is a type of eczema that occurs when exposed to stress and cold, which occurs with redness of the scalp as well as facial skin, dandruff, peeling. There may be an intense involvement around the mouth on the forehead, eyebrows at the edges of the nose. To treat the disease and stop its progression, various fungal creams or cortisone lotions can be used, except for moisturizing creams or lotions.

Rosacea is more common in women, especially from middle age, and occurs with redness and small pimples on the face. Stress is a skin disease that is especially negatively affected by cold, except for the sun. Those with rosacea disease should use moisturizing lotions to prevent the skin from drying out in the cold, as they are protected from the sun,” was said.
