TURKEY WILL RECEIVE A GREATER SHARE OF HEALTH TOURISM

The health in Turkey studies conducted under the leadership of the Turkish Ministry of Commerce are aimed at creating personalized and improved models in high-potential areas such as health tourism in Turkey, sports tourism, ecotourism, wellness, attracting more health tourists to Antalya and Istanbul, other cities and generating income.

In Turkey, it is aimed to provide more personalized services, attract more health tourists and generate income in characteristic areas with high potential such as health tourism, sports tourism, ecotourism, wellness (well-being).

According to the information obtained by the AA correspondent from the Ministry of Trade, health tourism stands out as a sector that supports the economic sustainable development of countries and increases their competitiveness, especially in recent years.

This type of tourism has become one of the target service export sectors for Turkey, given its profitability, profitability and sustainability, as well as the state of the country’s medical sector and its developed potential.

According to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), the number of tourists who visited Turkey for treatment in the 10-month period of this year was 370 thousand 335, while the income received was 704 million 261 thousand 29 dollars.

According to the data of the Ministry of Health, the number of foreign patients visiting the country in the 10-month period was recorded as 718 thousand 164. It is estimated that the statistics provided by the TURKSTAT on health tourism revenues do not show the full number of patients available due to the fact that they are determined through surveys conducted at border crossings.

It is envisaged that the Ministry will record the number of health tourists treated in the country in the coming period and the revenues from health tourism and work on measuring them in a healthy way. It is also planned to use the Ministry’s support for health tourism as a tool in this context.

FROM HAIR TRANSPLANTS TO IVF TREATMENTS

While the expenditure per tourist in the sector is recorded as about 1900 dollars, it is estimated that this figure is actually approaching the level of 10 thousand dollars.

The most preferred branches by tourists who come to Turkey to get health care are aesthetic /hair transplantation, cardiac surgery, orthopedics, oncology and IVF treatments in Istanbul and Antalya Turkey.

Considering the aging population of Europe, which is located in the immediate geography of Turkey, demand growth is expected in areas such as elderly care services and thermal /well-being tourism, which are other important branches of health tourism, in the coming period. Considering Turkey’s resources in this context, it is assessed that there is significant potential in these areas. The Ministry is also conducting studies in these areas.

Efforts are underway to improve the service delivery infrastructure and marketing capacities of organizations involved in the country’s health tourism ecosystem, update existing support and create new support elements in accordance with industry demands in order to increase Turkey’s share of the global health tourism market in this context.

In the field of health tourism, activities aimed at promoting the country’s capacity and the opportunities it offers are supported while participating in activities in this direction.

It is envisaged that more personalized and improved models will be created in areas with high potential such as health tourism, sports tourism, ecotourism, wellness, attracting more health tourists and generating income.

In October, a protocol was signed between the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate visas for international patients coming from abroad to receive medical services in order to decisively increase the flow of medical tourists to the country and the export of medical services. Within the scope of the protocol, the necessary technical and organizational work is underway on the acceptance of applications for a “health visa” by the Service Exporters’ Association in December.

While the free trade agreements (FTA) signed by Turkey included provisions related to service sectors such as health tourism, the last FTA signed with EFTA also contained provisions related to this. Similar steps are planned to be taken in the agreements to be signed in the coming period.

TURKEY HAS MORE ADVANTAGES IN THE HEALTH TOURISM MARKET THAN EVER BEFORE

Başkent University Department of Business Administration Faculty Member Prof. Dr. said that with the new type of coronavirus outbreak, the travel motivations and expectations of health tourists have changed, and Turkey has more competitive advantages than ever in the global health tourism sunday, which is measured at $ 100 billion, he said.

After global epidemic, health safety was also added to the preference criteria of Turkey hospital health tourists such as affordable priced treatment costs at hospitals, high quality of service, modern medical technology, ease of access, noted:

“The process, which has been managed competently and proactively since the beginning of the epidemic, has been a critical element in the repositioning of Turkey as a health tourism center where health security is possible for international patients in all aspects. After the epidemic, the incidence of cardiovascular system diseases, cancer, COPD, obesity and mental and addiction-related diseases has increased rapidly globally. The countries that will be successful in the health tourism sector after the epidemic will be the ones that can manage the epidemic well, minimize the security risk and manage to focus on the target countries and branches.”

At this point, common sense, using the synergy of all stakeholder in public and private sectors to act in emphasizing that it is important for the Turkish health tourism beam, “the agent organizations, Turkish hospitals, public authorities, local governments and non-governmental organizations and the necessity of a total struggle is obvious. We have the capabilities and potential to overwhelm all hospitals and doctors in Turkey with international patients, and we have the power to turn the crisis into an opportunity.” said.
