ISTANBUL IS HIGHEST SHARE OF GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT WITH 30.1 PERCENT
According to TURKSTAT data, Istanbul received the highest share of gross domestic product (GDP) in Turkey in 2020 with 30.1 percent.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) has announced its Provincial-based Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data for 2020 Turkey.
Accordingly, according to the calculations of GDP at current prices at the provincial level; In 2020, Istanbul reached the highest GDP of 1 trillion 517 billion 324 million TL and received a 30.1 percent share of the total GDP. Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 482 billion 589 million TL and a 9.6 percent share, Izmir with 306 billion 713 million TL and a 6.1 percent share. The last three places in the provincial-level GDP accounts were Tunceli with 5 billion 65 million TL, Ardahan with 4 billion 487 million TL and Bayburt with 3 billion 191 million TL.
The top five provinces that received the highest share of GDP accounted for 53.5 percent of the total GDP in 2020.

ISTANBUL IS THE LEADER IN GDP PER CAPITA
In 2020, Istanbul ranked first in GDP per capita with 97 thousand 950 TL. Istanbul was followed by Kocaeli with 96 thousand 745 TL and Ankara with 85 thousand 396 TL. In the calculations of GDP per capita at the provincial level, Van with 22 thousand 104 TL, Ağrı with 21 thousand 357 TL and Şanlıurfa with 20 thousand 421 TL took the last three places.
GDP per capita was higher than the Turkish average for fourteen provinces in 2020.

GDP BY ACTIVITY
When the activities constituting GDP were examined, Istanbul, which received the highest share of GDP at current prices in 2020, also ranked first in all activities except the agricultural sector and other service activities.
In total, the share of Istanbul in the information and communication activities was 64.4 percent, the share of finance and insurance activities was 58.7 percent, the share of professional, administrative and support services activities was 46.0 percent, the share of the services sector was 40.8 percent, the share of the construction sector was 33.2 percent.
Konya ranked first in the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector with a 5.9 percent share, while Ankara ranked first in other service activities with a 41.1 percent share.
In 2020, Istanbul received a 40.8 percent share of the total services sector, while the share of the services sector in the total GDP of the province amounted to 30.3 percent. Among the total GDP of Istanbul, the industrial sector ranked second with a share of 17.9 percent, and professional, administrative and support services activities ranked third with a share of 7.3 percent.
