WHAT IS TRICHORRHHEXIS NODOSA?

The thermal tools used for hair drying and styling are hair straighteners and hair dryers. Heat is a physical factor that causes damage to the hair. A chemical process or not, thermal straightening damages the hair strand. When the hair is exposed to high heat, which can also be prolonged sunlight, the part of the cortex (outer part) in the protein structure of the hair denature micro-fibrils, and the mechanical properties of the hair, such as force and elasticity, change. Ceramic irons in the form of flat irons and straighteners in the form of curling irons do more damage than hair dryers. In these devices, the temperature rises to 175-215 degrees in 5 minutes, and this heat is a sufficient amount to cause damage to the hair. The damage a person’s hair type/structure, the process of how often, simultaneous procedures and other hair care depends on the amount of work (Heat 175 °C should not exceed). Excessive use of these tools causes damage called “trichorrhhexis nodosa”. Normally there are air gaps in the hair. At high temperatures, evaporation and expansion occur in these air cavities, causing knot-shaped expansions and almost explosions in the hair structure. Hair becomes almost a sponge with enlarged air bubbles in the hair, easily breaks and becomes lifeless. In fact, it is a decaying of hair, which is popularly described as burning of hair.
