MEN WHO APPLY BECAUSE THEY CANNOT HAVE CHILDREN SHOULD BE EXAMINED

Testicular cancer mainly affects young men aged between 16-40. Just like breast cancer in women, the patient’s self-examination is a type of cancer that is critical, underlining that the Urooncologist Assoc. Dr. “Testicular cancer is not an obstacle to becoming a father in many men,” drew attention to an important point by saying.

Stating that the swelling or mass that comes to the hand is among the early symptoms of testicular cancer, Associate Professor Specialist Director of Urooncology Dr. “That is why it is important that men, especially in the younger age group, take care of their regular manual examinations and go to the doctor without wasting time when they notice unusual changes,” said.

Treatment is possible with early diagnosis

While the testicle, which is usually a mass, becomes larger, in patients who cannot have children, the testicles with tumors may be smaller than normal, Assoc. Dr. said, “However, other symptoms are seen in the advanced stages of the disease. For example, when testicular cancer passes into a stage where the lymph nodes in the abdomen are also swollen, it presses on the kidney, causing pain. According to the organs it bounces on, different symptoms can also occur. When it splashes into the lungs, there are late signs such as cough, bloody sputum. When it bounces on the brain, complaints about the masses inside the head are seen. But despite all this, testicular cancer is not a difficult type of cancer. Especially in the early stage, when it is caught only in the testicle, its solution is possible with surgical intervention,” he said.

Applicants beware because of the inability to have children!

Assoc., who stated that his brother, family history of testicular cancer, and the fact that the testicle is not in its normal place are effective in the development of testicular cancer. Dr. spoke as follows:

“In order for the testicle to be healthy, it needs to be at an appropriate temperature, and therefore not inside the abdominal cavity. This is important both for the fact that the quality of sperm does not decrease, and for the fact that a tumor does not develop there.
.

Some genetic syndromes can also cause testicular cancer, but another remarkable result recently is that the incidence of this cancer is increasing in men who have applied due to the inability to have children.

.
For this reason, care should be taken to ensure that men who come to treatment to have children are examined more thoroughly for testicular cancer.”

Sperm should be frozen before starting treatment

Assoc., said that treatment methods such as surgery and chemotherapy can be applied according to the diagnosis and spread of the disease,“But there are two important considerations at the beginning of this process. First, it may be recommended that the patient freeze their sperm to avoid being affected by the treatments to be applied. Because young men may want to have children in the future.

The second is patient psychology. As a result, for a man in a productive period, it is not an easy situation for him to lose one of the limbs that ensure his productivity. For this reason, it is useful to plan psychological support from the very beginning and add it to treatment. Testicular cancer is not a life-threatening disease. Moreover, although it caused concerns about productivity, many patients also had children after treatment with sperm freezing,” he said.

According to the disease, only mass can also be taken

Assoc., who stated that in previous years, only the removal of the mass instead of the testicle was not treated warmly. Assoc. Dr. “Nowadays, only mass is obtained in specially selected patients. But the difficult thing in such cases is that the testicle that has not been removed should be kept under constant monitoring. Therefore, it is very important to make the right diagnosis and create the right treatment plan for the patient, rather than surgery, and follow it carefully. In metastatic cases where the disease has spread to other organs such as the lungs or brain, there are treatments that have been applied for many years; with these, quite ridiculous results are obtained. There are also successfully performed secondary surgeries for chemotherapy protocols and after,” he said.
