IT DISPLAYS SUBSTANCES THAT BRING CHILDREN TO GRIPS WITH DEATH

Akdeniz University (AU) Faculty of Medicine Department of Pediatric Surgery Professor Dr. displays objects that children swallow and surgically remove from food or windpipe as a collection on a board in the hospital corridor. Dr. noted that during the pandemic, children were trapped in the house, and there was an increase in the number of nuts that escaped to the esophagus.

Dr. successfully removes objects that escape into the pale or esophagus of infants and children, whose ages range from 6 months to 7 years, while playing games or eating, with operations that he has carried out for 42 years. Dr. displays bodies removed from the respiratory and digestive system in order for families to gain sensitivity on two boards created in the corridor of the hospital’s Department of Pediatric Surgery in Block H.

The collection included a toy magnet, battery, quilt needle, batch needles, pencil sharpener, pendant tip, earrings, fork needle, nail, screw, game dough, coins, toy parts, tip and back parts of pens, and a part of the trachastomy tube. The panel noted that children who spent more time at home with the pandemic process had a variety of nuts and pieces that escaped into their windpipes. Among the nuts, sunflower seed shell, walnut, peanut, pumpkin seed, Antep hernia shell, hazelnut piece, almond inside was found.

Dr., who left behind 42 years in pediatric surgery, gave information about objects removed from the digestive and respiratory tract of infants and children between the ages of 6 months and 7 years.

BEWARE OF BATTERIES IN TOYS

Corona noted that the virus locked children in the house, as well as everyone else, Dr. said that these children also began to reach toys more easily.

Dr. underlining that this situation is both good and bad, “the good guys are busy, on the bad side, the foreign body drinking, swallowing, breathing, children up to the age of 1.5-6 children. Because of their researcher qualities, they want to first take everything they find into their mouths and taste it. Children swallow nuts or pieces of toys left in the middle as a result of our neglect. It’s the toy batteries we’re most afraid of. Children swallow round little batteries when they open the toy. This ingested battery continues to work in the esophagus. The esophagus is burning. It’s harder to treat when you’re late. If it comes early, it removes the batteries and the treatment process is completed in a healthy way,” he said.

.
INCREASE IN CASES OF TRACHEA

Dr., who stated that children swallowed whatever they found for the windpipe, said: “during the corona period, children leaned heavily on nuts. I think families encourage them, too. They started buying nuts, peanuts, pieces of walnuts, popcorn. In the last 1 year, we have performed operations on about 55 windpipes. Among them, there are most pieces of peanuts and walnuts. We pulled out pencil bits, pencil bits. If it’s something that clogs the entire trachea, they can die with the sudden loss of children. If it’s removed, it’s fine. Small pieces go to the children’s brooches. When it’s blocked, the air gets stuck inside, it comes to us because of respiratory distress,“ he said.

.
CASES OF NUTS INCREASED WITH THE PANDEMIC

Dr., who shows the nuts swallowed by children on the digestive system board, said: “most peanuts, walnuts, hazelnut pieces, hazelnut shells, core pieces, inside the pumpkin seeds, there is a hernia shell of Antep. We’re not exhibiting some of this because it’s broken. These are materials extracted from children. During the corona virus period, our number increased greatly. In the last two months, we have removed nuts, pistachios, walnuts, chestnuts, wheat grains, peanuts. It was probably because of this that the children began to reach more easily and the increase. Families should not use nuts in their home environment until their children start crawling and reach 5-6 years of age, and they should be careful,” he said.

Dr. added that an ingested piece of nuts can completely close the windpipe and lead to sudden death.

Dr. said that although it seems a very simple issue, families should be careful about disinfectants, cleaning products, nuts, toy batteries, money and other materials.

.
THE ESCAPE OF PULSES INTO THE WINDPIPE CREATES DANGER

Dr., who stated that children unwittingly swallow dried beans, chickpeas, rice from pulses prepared at home, said:“ not when swallowed, but if these objects get into the windpipe, serious problems can occur. It is necessary to keep pulses away from children. It’s not easy to control the kids,” he said.

.
NAILS, NEEDLES, SAFETY NEEDLES WITH EVIL EYE

Dr., who showed examples of objects displayed on the board, said: “there are two magnets on the board that attract attention. It was given to the boy to play with. A 7-year-old boy was curious, swallowed one of these magnets, and then swallowed his second wife. These magnets went all the way to the gut and merged there. When you’re so stuck, the bowel gets affected and clogged. We surgically removed it and repaired the bowel. We’ve got a sharpener, there’s a lot of money. There’s a nail and a big needle. There are needles in the bun, we see this more in those who use the hijab. Children swallow the evil eye fork needles. This needle is stuck in the esophagus. He gets bored inside and stays there all the time, causing a puncture of the esophagus. We remove them in an operating environment with a light pipe,” he said.

.
WE HAVE RAISED AWARENESS

Dr., who stressed that those who saw the board were interested and gained sensitivity, expressed that they were happy to provide awareness. Dr. stressed that removing these objects is a difficult operation and it is important that children are delivered in time. Dr. , who mentioned that the use of disinfectants and Cologne increased during the period of the corona virus, reported that children who drink these products due to high alcohol are likely to burn both the mouth and esophagus, as well as problems related to alcohol.

.
DISINFECTANT AND COLOGNE INCREASED MY DRINKING

“They can swallow their lids as long as they are in the hands of children, such as Toys, ” said Dr. , who expressed curiosity about both the smell and taste of disinfectant and Cologne found in the middle place. Among the patients who come to the children’s emergency room are children who drink disinfectant and cologne,” he said.
