HOW IS SINUS LIFTING OPERATION PERFORMED IN TURKEY?

In cases where the sinus cavities sag downwards, bone volume losses occur. Bone space is opened up in these patients by sinus lifting procedure before implant

Sinus lift operation is a bone-forming technique that is used to use a fixed prosthesis when you do not want to use a movable prosthesis in the absence of your molars in the upper jaw.

Maxillary sinus is the name given to the anatomical cavities located just above our upper jaw, close to our molars. The task of these cavities is to ensure the formation of sounds and the reduction of head weight. In cases where the sinus cavities sag downwards, bone volume losses occur. These bone losses can be seen as a natural physiological process, but they can cause problems before implant treatment.

.
IT IS PERFORMED BY A MAXILLOFACIAL SURGEON

If implant treatment is to be applied to a patient who has experienced a decrease in bone volume due to sagging of the sinuses, a surgical intervention called sinus lifting is first performed in the treatment. With this operation, a sufficient volume is created for the length and width of the implant, which must be fully inserted into the bone. After sufficient bone volume is obtained, implant application is started. It is extremely important that maxillofacial surgeons, who are experts in the subject, perform the treatment for implant treatments that require sinus lifting.

Between the bones of the head are air decays, which are called sinuses. When the teeth of the posterior region of the upper jaw are lost, the sinuses located above this region expand under the influence of air pressure, leading to a thinning of the bone below it.

In order to replace the lost teeth, a certain amount of bone volume is needed to be able to implant. The process of surgically raising the base of the sinus to increase the amount of bone that has decreased is called sinus lifting (lifting).

BONE POWDER TURNS INTO BONE

How is sinus lift surgery performed?

The area where the operation will be performed is anesthetized locally, and the gum is removed, opening a window with the appropriate tools selected for side treatment in the sinus. The sinus membrane covering the inside of the sinus is gently raised and bone dec called a graft is placed between it and the underlying bone, and then the operation area is closed with stitches. After this operation, which lasts about half an hour, mild pains may occur that can pass with painkillers.

When can implants be made after sinus lift operation?

If the patient’s own bone height is less than 4 mm in the sinus lift area, it is necessary to wait for the bone powders to turn into bone tissue in order to be able to place the implants. Approximately six months after the operation, the bone tissue reaches sufficient hardness and implants can be inserted.

If more than 4 mm of bone is present in the area where the sinus lift operation was performed, it is possible to insert implants simultaneously with the sinus lift operation.

What complications may occur during this procedure?

During the procedure, ruptures may appear due to the thinness of the sinus membrane.

Minor tears can be compensated for, but if there are larger tears, it may be necessary to cancel the operation. Sinus membrane ruptures heal on their own.

As with any surgical procedure, bleeding may occur or infection may develop during and after the procedure.

In order to avoid these complications, it is important to follow the doctor’s recommendations, use the prescribed medications.

If you feel that the liquids you drink after the operation or the liquid you use when gargling your mouth are coming from your nose, you should contact your doctor who is treating you urgently.

This condition can cause serious complications. That hole should be closed by a specialist dentist. This is called an oroantharial fistula, and this is a troublesome complication.

There are two types of this opening, which is located between the oral cavity and the sinus dec The first group consists of acute sinus openings due to traction, which occur during the work of the dentist in the clinic. It is the most common type and it is quite easy to be treated with the necessary treatment on the fly.

.
THE RISK OF BLEEDING PERSISTS

The second group is chronic openings.

If the opening is up to 1-2 mm, if there is no root part and the root part pushed into the sinus is quite small and not infected, the oral cavity and sinus are disconnected and the closure of the opening is achieved through a blood clot. If the opening is large, the gums on both sides of the opening are sutured by approaching each other with various techniques.

In particular, patients who have stopped taking blood thinners on the advice of their doctor and switched to drugs in the form of needles and had treatment may face the risk of bleeding even days after the operation when they return to their own medications again. The consultation of the dentist and the patient’s doctor becomes important here.

How many types of sinus removal techniques are there?

Sinus lift operation is performed in two ways, open and closed. If the patient has 4-5 mm of bone at the site of the implant, a closed technique is preferred.

If the patient has a bone below 4 mm, an open technique is preferable.

.
IT IS EXPECTED FOR SIX MONTHS

How is open sinus lifting performed?

In patients with excessive melting of the upper jaw bone, an open sinus lift operation is performed.

A window is opened from the cheek side of the patient’s upper jaw, and the sinus mucosa is pushed upwards. Bone grafts are filled into the resulting cavity. The bone graft is expected to mature for up to six months.

How is closed sinus lifting performed?

Closed sinus lifting operation is performed if there is bone height of 4-5 mm in the jawbone. Under local anesthesia, the sinus base is broken with special tools called osteotomes and the sinus is raised. Bone powder is placed in this cavity. Usually implants are also placed at the same time.

.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER DENTAL SINUS SURGERY?

In order to prevent bleeding after dental sinus surgery in Antalya or Istanbul hospital, a tampon soaked in serum should be bitten vigorously for about 20 minutes. But care should be taken to ensure that the seams made are not damaged. In particular, the lips should not be pulled. It should not be spat out in the first 24 hours. Hard foods and hot foods should be avoided for a while. Gargle with salt water should be done three to four times a day. The medications prescribed by the doctor should be used regularly. It should be kept away from places such as hot baths and baths for two weeks. In addition, sneezing, hard cleaning of the nose should be avoided. If you have to sneeze, sneezing with your mouth open reduces the reverse pressure coming to the place where the graft was placed. For up to two weeks, air travel, underwater diving should be avoided. In addition, smokers should stop smoking for a while. This helps to make recovery faster.

.
IS SINUS LIFT OPERATION HARMFUL?

Sinus lifting operation does not cause any harm if it is performed by qualified and experienced Turkish doctors. If your doctor in Turkey concludes that you are not suitable for the procedure as a result of your examination, he will inform you about it and tell you about alternative treatment options.
