ISTANBUL NUTRITIONIST EXPLAINS WHY WE CONSTANTLY THINK ABOUT FOOD

The whole world is sounding the alarm about the rate of obesity in children. Stating that the underlying reason for this is that children are playing with the perception of ‘eating’, rather than the increase in the consumption of sugary, ready-made foods, the Nutritionist asks: Why are we constantly thinking about eating? Should dishes be prepared at home on special recipes for children? Should children learn to cook? How do cartoons and children’s books convey messages about food?

Are acquired in childhood, indicating that perception of proper nutrition nutritionist, obesity for children to spend per screen triggered to convince you to eat them in social media we see ‘special recipe’ to make the traditional ‘pot dinner-from our’ we walked away, crying children are addicted to sugar, junk food at the grocery store actually says that.

So, how does the media make our relationship with food? How do children get an idea about food through cartoons they watch, books they read, workshops in schools or special centers? Nutritionist evaluated the master:

Did it catch your attention, too? Recently, television programs, our social media posts, events in shopping malls. There is something about food everywhere. This bombardment of the food, which disrupts our perception, leads us to constantly think about eating. For this reason, we are constantly hungry, and when we are eating on the screen, we do not realize that we are not eating, nor that we are full.

The customer make the kids even food workshops, contests, food, television, social media, food photos, recipes for the special children in the media (if there is any significant discomfort for your child children are a special recipe or older) healthy recipes, diet recipes we always think of food. Moreover, these ’healthy’ food suggestions became everyone’s problem; social media mothers became nutritionists with a certificate, wrote cookbooks. ”Make cupcakes from carob flour for your children, make waffles with quinoa, cook eggs with avocado in the morning, make salmon meatballs,” they began to say. How the hell is there a problem here?

Mothers who see these shares panic, “Are we feeding our children little or are we feeding them wrong?” started to get worried. Moreover, while many of us don’t know what waffles are, we can’t buy salmon and yet, these recipes have nothing to do with our traditional and local eating habits. When they give all these suggestions, they say, ‘I think this is the best type of nutrition’ that there is no such thing as ‘I think’ in science. Science is science because it seeks the truth for everyone. This perception game in the media is aimed only at money, it plays a role in disrupting our production and therefore our economy by constantly trying to bring imported products to our country.

Today, America has an obesity rate of 65-70%, today obese people have the right to park cars in disabled parking spaces in shopping malls. So, the obese were given the status of disabled. Do you think that a country that has made its own society like this wants our very best? With the copy recipes coming from there, our people are constantly made to think about ‘eating’ as they are put to sleep with television programs. That’s the most painful part of the job; and now the dolls have become their customers. There is a perception that parents should create fear and feed their babies more. However, food, like all living things in nature, should be a phenomenon that is eaten when hungry, left when full, we listen to our basic instincts.

As for the cooking workshops for children, they are trying to put these activities into a useful form with arguments such as ‘children learn to be patient while cooking, acquire team spirit, develop the child’s motor power’. Of course, Turkish women is not taught to make beans, pumpkin dishes, tarhana soup around here; children are shown forms that are far from the dishes of our culture, such as cupcakes, cookies, waffles.

The child does not learn to be patient when baking cakes in half an hour. I have a better formula for this; if you want to teach your child to be patient, make him a small vegetable stack (it can also be done at home now), Between your child a seedling in the stack, water it every day, wait for it to grow. Then he can learn to cook the product he produces. That is what patience is all about.

I don’t think it’s right to learn cooking as a child either. He should be interested in such branches as art, sports, science at this age, while he will be able to acquire a specialty in cooking at any age, do not be late for others. Let him develop his team spirit, motor skills not while baking cakes, but while playing sports, doing art, at scientific events.
.

As Atatürk said, “It is our national country to foster our nation’s love of fine arts by feeding it with all kinds of means and measures.” The best thing you can do about eating with your children is to keep them with you while you are having dinner and make them eat whatever you are eating. Do not make him obese with formulas derived from abroad.

.
The following saying that our ancestor said is also very meaningful: “Sport is not considered a superiority of physical ability alone. Understanding and morality also help in this. The strong ones who have short intelligence and understanding cannot cope with the less strong ones who have a good understanding of intelligence. I like an athlete who is smart, agile and moral at the same time.” So save them from inactivity, the disease of our time. This is more useful than teaching him how to make a cake.

If we go like this, in 10 years we will see the effect of obesity in body at a much more serious rate. Let the children run, play, go to the theater, paint, but not cook. Let food be something they eat when they’re hungry. Food equals fun, food equals play should not be. No scientific article says that teach your children to cook, because it is very useful. The following articles also tell about the benefits of making healthy vegetable dishes for children. But already in our culture, pot food is usually made at home. The countries where these studies are conducted are usually places where child obesity is high, such as America and the United Kingdom, and they are conducted as a precaution or stop.

In the European Union, one out of every 4 children aged 6-9 was overweight or obese in 2010, this figure was one out of every 3 children in 2015.

.
SO WHAT SHOULD HE PAY ATTENTION TO?

1- Children are not allowed to cook separate meals at home from the age of 1

2- Home cooking is provided at home

3- There is no such thing as a healthy cake, a doughnut. Do not accustom your children to these foods. At home, give him fruit, dried fruits, yogurt, cookies for his age instead of cakes.

4- Do not take junk food home. They eat enough outside. The house should be a completely healthy environment

5- Menus in schools should be much healthier and the buffet concept should be abolished in some private schools

6- Do not take your children to cooking workshops for children, let them spend time in artistic or sports activities instead.

7- Do not pay attention to imported products. Eat local and local dishes.

8- Do not give bonuses to other mothers. They also say that they are just mothers like you and nutritionists because they have been certified abroad most of the time. Listen to real experts on this issue.

9- Stay away from pretentious flashy recipes. The leaner you give food to children, the more they will get used to these tastes.

10- Be comfortable and don’t live food-oriented.

According to the latest data, 20% of Turkey is obese and 32% is overweight. That is, one out of every two people became either overweight or obese. According to 2016 data, it was determined that 14% of 15-year-old children are overweight. Over the past 3 years, this figure has probably increased even more. I believe that it is very wrong to apply cooking workshops to children when the situation is so dire. Food is well placed in their perception from a young age.

In addition to these, cartoons and children’s books should also be chosen correctly. Let me give you an example, in a children’s book it says exactly the following: what would be nice if there were meatballs with French fries. Everyone said that they would be very happy to have chocolate cake, french fries, ice cream and play to the fullest.

There are many more examples like this. The same applies to cartoons. For example, in a cartoon, airplanes come and make a huge waffle and pour chocolate sauce on it. In another part, they make ice cream and fill it with sweets. In a different cartoon, the bear enters the kitchen to cook for his friends. He shows a lot of healthy fruits and vegetables, his friends say, “no, they’re too bad”. Finally, the bear enters the kitchen and makes cookies. They all eat with appetite. That’s what our kids are watching.
