ATTENTION TO THE ’PSYCHOLOGICAL ILLNESS’ PANDEMIC AFTER CORONA

After two years since the first case of corona virus-related deaths occurred in Turkey, the scientific community is now also drawing attention to the psychological illness pandemic. The pandemic has also brought about obsessive diseases, depression and anxiety…

Turkey Medicals member and Hospital Department of Mental Health and Diseases Prof. Dr. noted that in the process of the corona virus, which began with obscurity, there were breaks from life with the isolation brought by the epidemic. Prof. Dr. noting that there are injurious effects for those who experience the disease, said:

.
WE HAVE BEEN CUT OFF FROM LIFE A LITTLE

The pandemic process has changed now, of course, with the conditions at the beginning. It created a lot of fear at the beginning. There has been a serious obscurity. There were a lot of deaths early in the pandemic. The fears of the epidemic and those who were seriously ill at that time, there were deaths. Everyone’s family has had relatives we lost to the corona virus, including me. It was isolation. We have lost some of the life we know. There have been closures in the house.

.
ECONOMIC POWER HAS GRADUALLY DECREASED

The change of habits formed by this, the children could not go to school. People have lost their jobs. Businesses have closed. This has threatened our health in many areas of life. He threatened our social life, our economy. The economic power that we have all over the world and in our country has gradually decreased. Of course, this process had much more damaging effects on people who experienced the disease or had severe symptoms due to the disease who faced death.

Turkish Professor Doctor who drew attention to research conducted with health professionals, shared the following information:

.
ANXIETY DISORDER AND DEPRESSION

Here’s what the research shows. In our own clinical practice, that is, we have gradually conducted a study before and after the pandemic in health professionals. It’s about our own hospital, about the state of health workers in the pandemic process. We have found that up to 50 percent of health care workers develop anxiety disorders and depression.

Perhaps the increase in pace brought by the study was due to long-term assignments, especially at the beginning of the pandemic. People were afraid to go home. These are already looking at the numbers related to the pandemic, and the likelihood of corona transmission in health professionals and the number of deaths related to the virus was much higher than in the general community.

.
THERE HAS BEEN AN INCREASE IN OBSESSIVE PATIENTS

We’ve lost too much. At least, we have seen an increase in psychological depression, anxiety states, obsessive diseases caused by this in health professionals. Fear of germs has become stronger with the pandemic of these fears in people with cleaning anxiety. We have also seen the reflections of this in our patients.

There is indeed an increase of close to 50 percent between the number of patients we saw before the pandemic and the number of patients who are currently being sick and reaching us. There is an increase of almost 50 percent between the number of patients we saw before the pandemic. Of course, it is necessary to measure this more objectively with important research projects on a national or social scale. This is what we see, our impressions, what we can say based on our own practice.
