WHAT ARE THE HARMS OF BEING OVERLY IRRITABLE?

One of the most common mental complaints in recent years is excessive nervousness. In some cases, the appearance of this feeling is necessary even in the usual. The problem here is to experience an exaggerated and uncontrolled nervous state that is not appropriate for the situation. Turkey Medicals hospital member and head of the Psychiatry Department, the Turkish Specialist Psychiatrist Doctor, shared the harms of being overly angry.

Sudden and sudden excessive irritability is often the tip of the iceberg. Usually, in the invisible part of the iceberg, there are feelings that a person does not want to accept. These are also often feelings such as sadness, resentment, helplessness, loneliness, and fear.

Because such feelings are usually difficult feelings to accept for most of us, we can think of anger or excessive irritability as a camouflage or defense.

Irritability is not a disease alone, but is considered a symptom of some psychiatric disorders. Many psychiatric disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, alcohol use disorders can be counted among them.

In addition, we know that some thyroid diseases such as hyperthyroidism, sleep apnea syndrome, epilepsy and general medical diseases such as diabetes can cause irritability. Irritability can be a consequence, as well as in some cases it can be a cause. Because excessive irritability has a negative effect on the occurrence of diseases such as gastritis, heart disease, high blood pressure, or on the course of the existing disease.

The subject of treatment should also be examined in many ways for these reasons. Problems that may be related to the general medical condition should be treated the underlying diseases should be examined. Similarly, if irritability appears as a secondary symptom of mental illnesses, a treatment plan for these diseases should be established again.

Revealing the main emotions underlying irritability and supporting it with psychotherapy methods such as cognitive restructuring is also an important component of treatment.
