WAYS TO PROTECT THE HEART IN COLD WEATHER: DO NOT WALK AGAINST THE STRONG WIND, DO NOT PUSH THE CAR LEFT IN THE SNOW!

It is even more important than ever to maintain heart health these days, when cold weather is beginning to manifest itself well, and the whole country is covered with white from the snow. Events such as walking against a strong wind, pushing a car left in the snow can cause a heart attack in a person. Especially if a person has a blockage in the heart vessels, not enough blood can go to the heart muscle. And on top of that, when you work the heart too much with heavy exercises, it is an invitation to a crisis. Cardiac and Vascular Surgeon Prof. Dr. gave information about ways to maintain heart health in winter.

”In winter, the range of motion narrows,” said Turk Professor Doctor, “While walking outdoors is our favorite, heart-friendly cardio exercise, it may not be possible to walk outdoors a lot in winter. It is more useful to walk outdoors in enclosed spaces than to walk on a treadmill.

When it gets cold, people have difficulty playing sports outdoors. Therefore, we need to create a movement space for ourselves in the closed spaces as well. By playing sports at home, active life should also be continued in winter,” he warns.

BLOOD DOES NOT GO TO THE HEART MUSCLE

“In winter, more and more heavy exercises are performed. This condition poses a risk to the heart. Especially those who have chest pain, genetic heart disease in their family, those who have weight problems, cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes, and those who smoke; in winter, they should avoid heavy exercise and sudden movements in cold weather.”

GOING OUT INTO THE COLD AT ONCE IS THE CAUSE OF SPASM

”Contact with cold air can be the cause of a heart attack,” said Antalya Cardiac and Vascular Surgeon Professor Doctor “Going from a hot environment to cold air at a time can lead to heart spasms. When moving from a warm environment to a cold environment, it is necessary not to contact the cold at once without dressing in such a way as to keep the chest warm. When moving from an extremely hot environment to a cold one, the body is subjected to a serious heat exchange. We do not recommend that heart patients enter the sauna. Even if they go to the sauna, we don’t want them to leave the sauna and enter the cold pool at once. When the body is in the heat for a long time, the heart vessels expand along with all the vessels. When a person suddenly goes from hot to cold, with a sudden spasm, there is a serious decrease in the amount of blood going to the heart. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid the hot-cold difference in winter. Instead of wearing a single layer of thick clothing such as a sweater, it will be more beneficial to wear layers of clothing to protect the body,” he said.
