10 RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A HEALTHY AND COMFORTABLE PREGNANCY IN THE SPRING

While the spring season, when the weather warms up after the cold and gloomy days of winter and nature wakes up, offers expectant mothers the opportunity to spend more time outdoors, it is necessary not to neglect some important rules. Turkey Medicals Antalya JCI medical hospital member Obstetrician and Gynecologist, told expectant mothers about the rules that should be observed in order to have a healthy and comfortable pregnancy in the spring.

“Due to the continuing risk of COVID-19 infection during the pandemic process, it is necessary to pay attention to masks and social distancing, and to take the necessary precautions against seasonal and allergic diseases that increase in the spring,” Turkish Obstetrician-Gynecologist said and explained the recommendation:

1- Protect yourself from pollen

The amount of pollen in the air begins to increase in the spring. It is especially important for pregnant women with an allergic body to try to stay away from tree, flower and herb pollen. These allergens can cause sneezing, watery eyes and itching, coughing, runny nose and nasal congestion. Therefore, enjoying the good weather in the spring, do not go out as much as possible in windy and dry weather. After coming from the outside, take a shower to get rid of these allergens. But if your complaints last a long time or progress, contact your doctor in Turkey.

2- Exercise regularly

Exercise during pregnancy is very important for both you and your baby. Regular exercise to prevent weight gain, as well as reduce waist and back pains, make you feel better physically and psychologically, to facilitate normal birth, reduce swelling and edema, possible distortions that may occur during pregnancy and after birth body move to the front of the old body in a short time to return back to the view is very important. There is no harm in exercising unless your doctor prohibits it. The most comfortable and easy exercise you can do outside in the spring is walking. Again, swimming, yoga, pilates, fitness programs without weights can also be a good option.

3- Do not be fooled by the appearance of shoes and slippers

The choice of shoes is becoming more important than thought due to the fact that the center of gravity and the distribution of the load on the feet change depending on the structural change of the body during pregnancy, edema forms on the feet. It is important that shoes and slippers are selected with a comfortable, wide and soft special sole, and if heels are to be chosen, they should be at a height not exceeding 5 cm. It will be a great benefit to not be fooled by the image when choosing shoes and slippers, but to make the choice in favor of being healthy and comfortable.

4- Don’t dress too thick or too thin

In spring, it is recommended to prefer cotton clothing that breathes the body instead of synthetic, nylon clothing, which can lead to increased sweating and dryness of the skin. Instead of too tight clothes, it is useful to wear clothes in which you will feel more comfortable. It is also important to choose those that are made of cotton fabrics in your underwear preferences. Even if the weather is sunny, be sure to have a thin coat with you.

5- Eat a healthy and balanced diet

An increase in the variety of fruits and vegetables in the spring provides an opportunity to eat more healthy and varied. Thus, the chances of pregnant women to meet the vitamins and minerals they need from food also increase. But it should be remembered that fruits and vegetables should not be consumed without good washing. It is necessary to pay attention to a more nutritious and balanced diet, since our energy consumption also increases in the spring months, when, unlike the winter months, we abandon sedentary life. Do not forget to consume protein-rich chicken, yogurt, eggs and lentils, calcium-rich almonds, cheese and fish, iron-rich meat, fish, grapes. It is very important to avoid excessively fatty, sugary foods and canned products during pregnancy.

6- Drink water even if you are not thirsty

Fluid intake during pregnancy has a very important place. In the spring, when air temperatures also increase, 2-3 liters of fluid should be taken per day. In addition to water, the need for liquid to be taken can also be met by consuming drinks such as buttermilk, fruit juice and soda. Do not wait for thirst to drink water.

7- Take measures to reduce edema

As a result of physiological changes during pregnancy, there is water retention in the body to meet the increased need for blood, more blood circulates in the body. A part of the circulating blood deceps into the tissues outside the vessel and accumulates between the cells there, it is called ‘edema’. Edema is more common in the spring and summer, when the air temperature rises, especially in the later weeks of pregnancy. The best way to get rid of edema is to consume plenty of water. In addition, exercising, eating a protein-rich diet, trying not to stay up for a long time, being in the left side position while lying down will also help reduce the occurrence of edema.

8- Pay attention to these rules to protect yourself from constipation

Constipation during pregnancy is a very common problem. The pressure of the growing uterus on the intestines, the slowing of bowel movements due to hormonal changes increase the problem of constipation. But it is important for pregnant women to know that the problem of constipation is not a big problem. Otherwise, this situation may become more unresolved with increasing stress. It is important to consume plenty of water, eat rich in fiber foods, and eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, and pulp foods to prevent constipation. Increasing the consumption of these foods will help increase bowel movements, as the variety of fruits and vegetables increases during the spring period. To reduce constipation, apricot and plum compote can be drunk, bowel movements can be accelerated by drinking a glass of warm water in the morning.

9- Moisturize your skin

With the heating of the air, the loss of moisture through sweating increases. There may be a further increase in skin dryness that occurs due to hormonal changes already during pregnancy. The best way to moisturize the skin is to consume plenty of water, but it is important to regularly care for your skin from the outside to maintain the skin’s moisture balance. You can choose to use natural oils such as coconut oil, cocoa butter, almond oil, or choose products containing peptides that stimulate collagen production, or moisturizers containing topical hyaluronic acid. Moisturizers act as a barrier against factors that dry the skin, while also helping to reduce the formation of cracks.

10- Be protected from the harmful rays of the sun

When taking advantage of the sun in the spring, it is also necessary to take care of protecting your skin from UV rays, which becomes even more sensitive during pregnancy. For this reason, you should apply sunscreen at least 20-30 minutes before going out into the sun, and if the time spent in the sun will last longer, it should be renewed every 2-3 hours. Mineral-based physical preservatives such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide may be preferred during pregnancy to create a layer on the surface of the skin that reflects the sun’s rays and protects the skin from harmful effects of the sun. Mineral-based physical preservatives are not fully absorbed from the skin, so it is recommended to give preference to this type of sunscreen creams during pregnancy. Since the sun’s rays are important for the synthesis of vitamin D, you can take advantage of the spring sun as of 07.00-11.00 in the morning and 16.00 in the afternoon.
