SMOKERS AT ALL-TIME HIGH RECORD AROUND THE WORLD
A UK study has revealed that the number of people using cigarettes worldwide has risen to an all-time high of 1.1 billion. Turkey is among the 10 most commonly used countries.

The number of cigarette addicts has reached an all-time high, according to a study published in the respected medical journal The Lancet. With rising numbers among young people, the number of people smoking worldwide has risen to 1.1 billion.

YOUNG PEOPLE MORE VULNERABLE
Of the Institute for health measurements and assessment, who led the research, said 89 per cent of those who start smoking are those aged 25 and under, stressing that the government should focus on preventing addiction among young people.was said: “young people are more vulnerable to addiction. If countries do not reduce the number of new smokers, the tobacco epidemic will last for many years,” she said.

TWO-THIRDS IN 10 COUNTRIES
According to the study, the number of smoking addicts increased in 20 countries among men and 12 among women. Only 10 countries account for two-thirds of smokers, ranking them as China, India, Indonesia, the United States, Russia, Bangladesh, Japan, Turkey, Vietnam and the Philippines. With 341 million people, one in three cigarette consumers lives in China.

8 MILLION DEATHS IN A YEAR
Smoking led to deaths of 8 million people in 2019. 1.7 million people died as a result of ischemic heart disease, 1.6 million people from chronic lung disease, 1.3 million people from laryngeal and lung cancer, and 1 million people from stroke due to smoking.
