TIPS FOR CARING FOR THE SKIN OF BABIES

Newborn babies have cotton-like skin when they are born. But they are very sensitive. Sometimes when you breastfeed your baby, redness begins on his cheeks, which touches you. Therefore, we must be very careful and carefully select every product we use.

When babies are newly born, their body is covered with a protective barrier called ‘vernix caseosa’. It provides convenience for vaginal births of babies and prevents heat loss of babies, this layer is only wiped when the baby is first born, it is not washed.

As soon as babies are born, they are no longer washed. After the baby is born, he/she is washed and discharged from the hospital no earlier than 6 hours later. Even in some hospitals, the baby is discharged by simply wiping it without washing at all. And when the baby gets home, it is not recommended to wash it until the umbilical cord falls out. Daily cleaning can be done with a wiping bath or a clean wet wipe until the umbilical cord falls out.

After the first day, the umbilical cord begins to be washed the day after it falls. When washing babies, shampoos suitable for the newborn period should be used, products that will dry the baby’s skin should be avoided.

Shampoo should not be placed directly in contact with baby skin. It is recommended to apply the product used for washing by foaming it by hand. This application will also facilitate the rinsing stage.

It is important that the curved areas such as the armpits, groin, neck and back of the ear are thoroughly dried with soft touches with a towel.

Specially produced baby moisturizers for babies that are suitable for baby’s skin can be applied after bathing to reduce skin dryness. It is also ideal for baby massage after bathing.

Babies should be changed before each feeding. It should be taken into account that the selected diaper is a diaper that matches the baby’s weight and does not leak liquid. In order to prevent diaper rash, the diaper of the baby should be changed frequently, diaper rash creams should be used to moisturize the skin and prevent the formation of diaper rash. Diaper rash creams are mostly used to prevent the formation of diaper rash. If you notice a rash and it tends to progress, you should definitely consult a doctor. Diaper rash is a painful condition for babies . It causes the baby to be constantly restless. For this reason, it must necessarily be treated. The bottom of the dolls should be changed frequently.

You should especially pay attention to the products used when cleaning. Water and cotton are recommended for cleaning in the first days of your baby’s birth. But it is not very ergonomic. Wet wipes are used. When choosing wet wipes, you should pay attention to their content, to be suitable for your baby. The advice to you is wet wipes made of cotton and water. With this wet wipe, you can safely clean your baby’s bottom. When cleaning, it should be cleaned from the dirty area to the clean area, from top to bottom. After cleaning, leave it on for a short time. Aeration will prevent diaper rash.

In addition, if the weather in Turkey warms up in summer and in winter, babies may experience a rash due to thick clothing. Therefore, you can wipe your baby with a wet wipe consisting of water and cotton, by washing your baby, it will open the blocked sweat glands and prevent the formation of a rash.

Because the skin of newborn babies is sensitive, you should choose clothes made of breathable fabrics. 100% cotton fabrics are the most ideal. In addition, babies should be washed with special detergents and ironed to dress the babies.

In newborn babies, red rashes called ‘erythema toxicum’, which we call normal, can be seen in the first days. These rashes do not need to be treated, they regress and disappear by themselves. If your house is too hot and too humid, it will get worse when you dress the baby too thickly. Therefore, your house should be 22-24degrees and 40-50 humid. In the first month, give your baby something more than what you are wearing, 1. at the end of the year, he/she should be dressed like whatever you guys are wearing now.

One of the most important issues in skin care for babies is sun protection. Direct sunlight contact for 5-10 minutes a day is necessary because it provides the synthesis of vitamin D from the skin, but its excess means that harmful ultraviolet rays damage the delicate baby skin. The most basic measure of sun protection is the prevention of direct sunlight with physical barriers such as clothing, hats, perfumeless, hypoallergenic, baby-developed sun protection products should be preferred.
